Recent natural disasters highlighted the need for real-time emergency communication to responders as well as citizens. Most experts now agree that better information and communication with all stakeholders result in better emergency prevention, response and recovery. Smart EDIS Alerts demonstrate how Roaming Messenger technology can enable more effective interoperable information communication across multiple devices and networks.

Smart EDIS Alerts is a reference application built to demonstrate the unique messaging capabilities of the Roaming Messenger Platform and provide a valuable service at the same time. The contents of the alerts are from the Emergency Digital Information Service (EDIS), a service of the Governor's Office of Emergency Services of California. EDIS carries a wide range of emergency and public safety bulletins including amber alerts, tsunami warnings, weather alerts, earthquake data, as well as urgent alerts and prevention information from state and local agencies.

Subscribers to Smart EDIS Alerts can receive real-time interactive EDIS alerts on any of their mobile devices and PCs. These smart alerts can roam from device to device, track down users, and provide interactive 2-way response capabilities. An intuitive web based interface allows users to select the kind of alerts they want and manage the devices on which they want to receive the alerts. Integrated into the location based services of the Roaming Messenger Platform, users can also select to receive alerts within their geographic area of interest.

Jon Lei, CEO of Roaming Messenger, explains the strategy behind Smart EDIS Alerts. "We are very excited to kick start Smart EDIS Alerts. This is part of our overarching strategy to facilitate market adoption of our breakthrough mobile messaging technology. Not only will this offer a high value service to Californians, we are also providing our business partners and customers a highly relevant way to experience Roaming Messenger technology."

Commenting further, Mr. Lei said, "Smart EDIS Alerts fulfills two important strategic objectives:

  1. Facilitates our 'I Want My RM' branding and awareness strategy by providing end-users with a touch and feel experience for Roaming Messenger technology
  2. Provides government agencies, system integrators and application developers with a reference application to easily integrate their own systems with Roaming Messenger."

Mr. Lei concluded by stating, "Smart EDIS Alerts is the first of many end-user applications that we expect to launch to showcase the power and benefits of Roaming Messenger and to hasten the adoption of our technology in the marketplace."
