Wall Street Journal's Tech Guru to Speak at EDN Innovation Awards

1/12/2005 - EDN Magazine, the premier design publication for electrical engineers, has announced that Walter Mossberg, The Wall Street Journal's personal-technology columnist and guru in spotting the best products to hit the market, will be a featured speaker at the 15th annual EDN Innovation Awards on March 7.

The EDN Innovation Awards honors the year's most significant high-tech advances.

Mossberg will address the furious pace of innovation in consumer technology and what it means to the individual and society -- especially since the consumer sector, not the corporate sector, now leads in innovation. He will also talk about what products, technologies and trends he sees on the near horizon. And with his trademark candor, he'll say why he likes some products and dislikes others.

Stephen Moylan, EDN vice-president and publishing director, summarized Mossberg this way, "Walt Mossberg is the King Midas of the tech industry. With his golden touch, he can turn a product into marketing gold or relegate it to the basement. His keen eye for innovation and technology that helps us work and live better brings a new dimension to our Awards program."

John Dodge, editor-in-chief of EDN, added his comments, saying, "In both his writing and as a speaker, Walt offers compelling insight to why likes or dislikes a product. His experience and journalistic instincts are phenomenal. What's more, he's just plain smart."

Walt Mossberg is the author and creator of "Personal Technology," a weekly column that has appeared in The Wall Street Journal since 1991. He also writes "Mossberg's Mailbox" and "The Mossberg Solution" for the Journal and is a contributing editor to its monthly magazine, Smart Money.

Among his many awards, Mr. Mossberg is a recipient of the Loeb Award for Commentary, the only technology writer to be so honored. In 2001, he received an honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Rhode Island. That same year he won the National Headliner Award. In 2002, he was inducted into the ranks of the Business News Luminaries, the hall of fame for business journalists, and he won the World Technology Award for Media and Journalism.

Mr. Mossberg has been a reporter and editor at the Journal since 1970. He based at the Journal's office in Washington, DC.
