1/11/2005 - TAK Imaging announced it is expanding its product offering and development focus in 2005 to include leading edge solutions for the growing consumer photo printer market.
TAK Imaging, formerly TAK'ASIC, Inc., currently provides silicon-based imaging solutions to leading digital office equipment vendors for color laser and multi-function imaging products such as the recently introduced Konica Minolta magicolortm2430 DL, a low-cost, photo-enabled raster color laser printer.
"We're starting 2005 with a new name that better reflects our expanding product offering and future direction," said TAK Imaging CEO, Doug Goodyear.
In coming months, TAK Imaging plans to leverage its expertise and IP in color imaging to provide ready-to-customize, system solutions including imaging technologies, semiconductors and software. These solutions will enable OEMS to help meet many of the currently unfulfilled user needs in photo printing with highly differentiated consumer photo printers at extremely attractive price/performance points.
"We see a clear demand for PC-independent printing capability, which requires printers to have more on-board intelligence in terms of enhancement features and simple, multi-device connectivity among other capabilities," said Goodyear. "With the rapid shift to digital photography, printer OEMs also want solutions that deliver an optimal combination of output speed and photo print quality from digital devices that matches or exceeds film based prints."
TAK Imaging currently anticipates having its first imaging solution aimed specifically for consumer applications available during the first half of 2005, and is targeting the ink jet, dye sublimation and color MFP categories of the photo-enabled printer market.
"The projected double digit growth rates for most of photo-enabled printer categories through 2008 are very attractive," said Christian Joly, Senior VP, Marketing and Business Development, for TAK Imaging. "With the continued proliferation of consumer devices from digital phones, PDAs and music players that enable photo capture and storage, revenues from at-home photo printing could easily surpass current estimates of $10 billion annually."
