9/30/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that Spain's national global carrier, Amena, mobile operator of the Auna Group, has selected Agilent OSS business intelligence solutions to monitor and measure the quality of service (QoS) provided by interconnect operators. The system will enable Amena to maximize its interconnect revenue and meet regulatory requirements for interconnect service quality. Amena also extended its Agilent roaming management system to ensure the quality of its GPRS roaming services. The Agilent solutions will enable Amena to resolve problems faster, increase and document QoS and significantly improve customer service for subscribers and roamers.
"Ensuring a positive customer experience is the foundation of our corporate mission," said Esther Morales, responsible for Amena's Network Engineering Department. "While we maintain the highest quality for our voice and data services, we cannot be certain that our interconnect partners are providing the same level of service. With Agilent OSS solutions, we can more effectively plan and manage those relationships to ensure the traffic entering and exiting our network is of the highest standard and that service performance is maintained along the entire route to our customers."
"As the fastest-growing mobile carrier in Spain, Amena continues to lead the way in delivering new levels of service quality to both its subscribers and interconnect partners," said Tom Walls, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Telecommunication Systems Division. "Agilent's business intelligence solutions will enable Amena to derive and measure key performance indicators necessary for interconnect, network operations, quality of service, finance and other teams to support business-critical decisions."
Amena purchased the Agilent OSS Data Management Component (DMC) and Data Mining Toolkit (DMT) to provide interconnect traffic and QoS analytics, and upgraded its GSM Agilent OSS Roaming Management System (RMS) to manage GPRS services.
About Agilent OSS DMC, DMT and RMS
The DMC is the industry's leading data warehouse solution that is specifically designed for large-scale telecommunication networks. This robust solution manages, correlates and stores multi-terabyte volumes of 500 million call and transaction records per day.
The DMT is a flexible analytic tool that uses OLAP technology to simplify the task of deriving key facts from raw data using a flexible, intuitive interface and pre-packaged, configurable business modules. Spreadsheets, charts and graphs enable network and business specialists, planners and managers to quickly identify and explore valuable information. The powerful reporting capabilities of the DMT combined with the DMC opens the rich potential of SS7 and IP network data to everyone within an organization, enabling them to make fast and well-informed business-critical decisions.
RMS is a service assurance solution that provides an extensive range of real-time monitoring tools that continuously report the status of the quality of roaming services between the home network and interconnect partners.
Amena, the mobile operator of the Auna Group, provides wireless services to 6 million subscribers and has a 21.8 percent share of the Spanish mobile market. In the past four quarters, Amena was the second-largest operator in Spain, based on total new subscribers. Last year, Amena obtained 42.8 percent of new mobile users in Spain. Amena is a member of the Starmap Mobile Alliance.
