Agilent, Cerebrus Help Brasil Telecom Protect Networks Against Fraud

9/23/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that Brasil Telecom, one of Brazil's largest telecommunications operators, has selected Agilent and Cerebrus' revenue-assurance solution to protect its new cellular and international networks, as well as existing local and long-distance networks, against fraud attacks. Brasil Telecom's Revenue Operations Center personnel will use the system to ensure that suspicious activities are discovered in real time, analyzed and shut down quickly, minimizing fraud and maximizing revenue.

Brasil Telecom uses Agilent's robust data-collection capabilities to gather call detail records from approximately 3,000 SS7 signaling links, combined with Cerebrus (RE), a unique fraud-detection and prevention solution based on patented advanced technologies, including neural networks. This powerful solution not only incorporates alarms to immediately notify operators of fraudulent activity of existing subscribers, but also identifies potential fraudsters before fraud is activated on the network.

"To most effectively control losses from fraudulent activities, we must have a real-time view of network data," said Waldeck Araujo Junior, CIO at Brasil Telecom. "The combined solution from Agilent and Cerebrus will enable us to be both reactive and, perhaps more importantly, proactive."

"Unfortunately, fraud is alive and well in the telecom industry," said Carlos Arthur Barros, vice president of Customers Operations for Agilent's Communications Solutions, Latin America Region. "Leading service providers such as Brasil Telecom have the most to gain when they put revenue assurance systems and personnel in place to combat fraud attacks, particularly when deploying new networks. We are pleased to work with Brasil Telecom to help make its new Revenue Operations Center a success by providing a clear, consolidated view of unscrupulous network activity that they can act upon quickly."

Since 2002, Agilent has been a key Cerebrus Solutions investor, as well as a worldwide value-added reseller and support organization for the CerebrusRE product. Cerebrus Solutions Limited is a leading provider of fraud solutions based on innovative advanced technology. More information about Cerebrus and the Agilent partnership is available at
