9/22/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) introduced a modular semiconductor parameter analyzer that provides a complete solution for parametric analysis of current and future semiconductor process technologies. The Agilent 4157B is a customizable parametric analysis solution for extreme measurement challenges, which allows expandability, flexibility and upgradeability in a PC-based environment. The Agilent 4157B can be configured with a variety of modules, thereby reducing cost of test and increasing test environment efficiency.
Engineers and scientists face a variety of parametric measurement challenges, including the need for a stable 100-attoamp current measurement resolution and the ability to conduct both current vs. voltage (IV) and capacitance vs. voltage (CV) measurements without switching cables between measurements. The Agilent 4157B's modular approach separates the system controller from measurement resources, which allows users to upgrade and protect their investment in equipment from shifts in PC technology. The Agilent 4157B high-resolution source/monitor unit (HRSMU) module can supply 1 femtoamp measurement resolution without external preamplifiers. The 4157B HRSMU module is compatible with the atto sense and switch unit (ASU), which delivers stable 100-attoamp measurements and eliminates the need to switch cables between IV and CV measurements.

The Agilent 4157B offers a variety of modules and advanced measurement features, such as custom sweep/step, multichannel sweep mode with parallel test, linear/binary search, range management and force value self-monitoring to provide a complete solution for parametric measurement and analysis. In addition, the medium power source/monitor unit (MPSMU) and HRSMU modules deliver 0.5-microvolt measurement resolution and support new 0.5V and 5V measurement ranges. This allows the instrument to easily perform demanding component matching and metal line resistance voltage measurements.
The Agilent 4157B is based on the Agilent E5270B precision measurement mainframe and is available in its standard configuration with a PC-based instrument controller running Windows(r) XP Professional. I/CV 3.0 Lite and a USB/GPIB interface are pre-installed on the portable controller.
