9/14/2004 - Thales Computers, a leader in providing PowerPC and Pentium-based VME computing solutions to OEMs and system integrators, has announced the availability of a 1 GHz version of its PowerEngine7 series of single-board computers (SBCs). The new board utilizes the latest IBM PowerPC® 750GX processor, delivering the optimum combination of high performance and low power consumption. This makes the PowerEngine7 ideal for demanding environments found in many military and severe environment applications.
The new PowerEngine7 SBCs feature single or dual PowerPC 750GX processors, operating at 1 GHz, providing extremely high performance at more than 2320 Dhrystone 2.1 MIPS, estimated SPECint95 and SPECfp95 values of respectively 52 and 32, while drawing a very low 17.5 watts of power for the entire board.
Both convection-cooled and conduction-cooled versions of the 1 GHz PowerEngine7 are currently available to meet application needs ranging from benign/development to the harshest mission-critical environments.
The new SBC includes up to 512 MB of SDRAM memory and up to 128 MB of Flash memory. The performance of the PowerEngine7 is enhanced by the Avignon host bridge system controller, which is optimized for use with the PowerPC processor, as well as the ALMA2e PCI/VME bus bridge, providing the capability for 2eSST transfers.
The PowerEngine7 series features ample I/O, including two PMC slots (one PCI 64 @ 66 MHz, one PCI 32 @ 33 MHz), two 10/100Base-T Ethernet interfaces including one 10/100/1000Base-T, as well as 4 asynchronous and 2 synchronous/asynchronous serial lines. A bridgeless PMC carrier board is available to expand the 64-bit PCIbus on P0 and increase the number of slots to as many as four.
The price of a convection-cooled 1 GHz PowerEngine7 with a single PowerPC 750GX processor and 512 MB SDRAM starts at $3,077 per unit in quantities of 100, with discounts for higher volume orders.
