9/8/2004 - National Instruments announced three new, fast Pentium III-based embedded controllers for VXI systems. Engineers now can use these modular, high-performance embedded controllers to increase productivity and speed execution time in their automated test applications.
The NI VXIpc-874B and NI VXIpc-875B two-slot, C-sized embedded controllers are the fastest in the VXI market and feature Intel Pentium III 1.4 GHz processors for applications that require enhanced peripherals such as a CD-ROM drive (available on the VXIpc-874B) or a PCI expansion slot (available on the VXIpc-875B). NI also offers a cost-effective, single-slot VXI solution with the NI VXIpc-771 embedded controller, which delivers more than twice the processing power of the previously released VXIpc-770 embedded controller. Engineers who need to maximize the number of available slots in their VXI chassis can use this controller, which features an Intel Pentium III 1.26 GHz processor. The VXIpc-874B, VXIpc-875B and VXIpc-771 embedded controllers are ideal for many military and aerospace applications such as end-of-line testing and depot repair because of their high-performance, modular architecture.
Engineers can use these new VXI embedded controllers to automate applications developed with NI LabVIEW 7.1, NI LabWindows/CVI 7.1 and NI TestStand 3.1. All three are available with Windows 2000/XP, and the VXIpc-874B and VXIpc-875B embedded controllers are also available with Windows NT. NI provides NI-VXI software to run VxWorks or Linux operating systems with NI-VXI embedded controllers. In addition, engineers can download more than 3,000 instrument drivers, including nearly 300 VXI instrument drivers, at ni.com/idnet.
VME eXtensions for Instrumentation (VXI) is a specification governed by the VXIbus Consortium (www.vxi.org). The VXIbus Consortium is a nonprofit corporation composed of the leading VXI companies whose duties include maintenance and promotion of the VXI specification. Since 1989, National Instruments has been delivering innovative embedded and remote control solutions to the VXI market.
