Triquint Optoelectronics Reduces Cost for Metro DWDM Transmission

9/2/2004 - TriQuint Optoelectronics (Nasdaq: TQNT), a leader in active optical component and module technology, announced the availability of two new components designed to reduce the cost of line side metro dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission at both 2.5Gb/s and 10Gb/s. TriQuint’s new components will debut at the 30th Annual European Conference & Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC) in Stockholm, Sweden, September 6-8.

At 2.5Gb/s, the new D2575 extends the reach and output power of TriQuint’s directly modulated laser (DML) portfolio in a standard butterfly package. The D2575 offers a reach up to 200km over standard fiber with a modulated output power of +7 dBm. This higher performance allows an economical DML solution to be used for spans up to 200km, and is a lower power consumption alternative to electroabsorption modulated lasers (EMLs). The D2575 is currently sampling in C-band wavelengths, with C-band production and L-band sampling scheduled for 1Q05.

At 10Gb/s, TriQuint offers the new E4560 and E4561 EML products that feature more than 0.5 dBm output power for both 800 ps/nm (40km, E4560) and 1600 ps/nm (80km, E4561) reaches. In addition to SONET/SDH versions, the E4560 and E4561 are also now available for sampling across C-band wavelengths for DWDM applications, with production ramping through 1Q05. The E456x series is available in an industry-standard 7-pin half-butterfly configuration.

Both the D2575 and E456x products are suitable for SDH/SONET or DWDM applications. The DWDM versions support wavelength stability of +/- 100 pm drift over life, consistent with 100 GHz spacing.
