8/11/2004 - Trolltech®, a provider of leading application development software, announced that Qtopia® Phone Edition (Qtopia Phone) has been awarded the prestigious LinuxWorld Product Excellence Award for "Best Embedded Solution". Announced at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco last week, Product Excellence Award winners represent major areas of innovation in the Linux and open source community.
Qtopia Phone, Trolltech's customizable application platform and user interface for Linux-based mobile phones, was named Best Embedded Solution by a panel of Linux and open source experts based on its value, productivity, flexibility, price/performance, and quality and availability of code. Qtopia Phone was selected over IBM's Cloudscape, the other finalist in the Best Embedded Solutions category.
"We are honored to receive this recognition from among the many qualified embedded Linux solutions at the show this year," said Haavard Nord, Trolltech CEO. "Mobile devices are one of the next big frontiers for Linux, and we are seeing strong demand for the Qtopia Phone from some of the world' s largest manufacturers today. This award underscores the growing need for technologies that bring the freedom and cost-efficiencies of Linux to mobile phones and other devices."
This year's LinuxWorld Product Excellence Award adds to many awards Trolltech has received in conjunction with the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo previously, including Best Embedded Solution in 2001 and 2002 and Show Favorite in 2000.
