8/11/2004 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high-performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, announced that Medical Insight, an innovative company specialising in image and data management systems for the healthcare sector, has selected IONA's ArtixTM to add multi-protocol and multi-platform integration capabilities to its product offering.
Medical Insight will use Artix to enable seamless integration of its EasyVizTM application with the disparate IT environments found in the company's healthcare customer organisations. EasyViz is designed to provide healthcare practitioners instant access to centralised patient records and images from any location, delivered to any device.
"It is critically important to us to be able to connect seamlessly to a variety of technical environments from numerous client devices," said Niels Husted Kjær, Manager of R&D at Medical Insight. "Following extensive industry research and technical evaluation, we identified Artix as the integration solution that would best meet our requirements. Key to this decision was Artix' ability to provide a single embedded integration point in our software that required no additional hardware resources and is independent of the systems and applications deployed at our client sites. We were impressed, too, with how quickly we were able to solve such a potentially complex integration problem with Artix."
Medical Insight's customers include global healthcare organisations with disparate and complex technology environments. The combination of high performance, small footprint and native support for multiple platforms and protocols made Artix a natural choice for Medical Insight and its customers. By using a standards based, service oriented integration approach, Artix provides a single integration point from EasyViz to customers' internal systems, regardless of their underlying technology.
"ISVs are looking for solutions for seamless interoperability with any number of technically diverse customer environments," said Ron Schmelzer, senior analyst with ZapThink, LLC. "Web Services-based integration products, like Artix, provide a perfect fit for these emerging and demanding integration needs. In particular, Artix' small runtime footprint, single point of integration control, and enterprise security features address the particular integration needs of these demanding users."
"Artix is ideally suited for use by Independent Software Vendors that need to connect applications to a myriad of unknown and technically disparate customer environments," said Peter Zotto, COO, IONA Technologies. "Artix is designed to provide this kind of connectivity at the performance levels that ISVs demand and with the small footprint they require. These customers also recognise that IONA has a decade's experience delivering such core technology to ISVs worldwide. For IONA it is a natural progression to the new era of SOA and Web services based integration, and customers recognise this with their selection of Artix."
