NMS Powers Aquanta's Calligator Advanced Communications Service

8/10/2004 - NMS Communications (NASDAQ:NMSS), the leading provider of technologies and solutions for enhanced services and efficient networks, announced that its Open AccessTM family of products serves as the engine for Belgium-based Aquanta's Calligator advanced communications service. Calligator provides true IP telephony and advanced unified messaging and communications to any PC/phone/fax/mobile user. The product (http://www.calligator.com/en) was selected as the "Most Innovative Application" among the entries submitted to the NMS Open Access Application Challenge. Aquanta was recognized for this honor by NMS at the recent SUPERCOMM 2004. To be considered for the honor, a company had to develop a next-generation communications application, using IP and ASR technologies and Open Access products from NMS Communications.

The primary benefit of Aquanta's winning application, Calligator, is that it makes domestic and international calls up to 70 percent cheaper without switching carriers, requires no communication infrastructure investments, and works on any PC with an Internet connection. Additionally, Calligator offers the following advantages:

  • VoIP support – discounted rates for person-to-person calls via IP telephony
  • FindMe/FollowMe – users can specify who can access them, by which telephone number, and when
  • Email access – users can access voice mail and faxes by email, and receive notifications of incoming items via SMS
  • Internet-enabled fax & SMS services – users can send faxes and SMS messages via the Internet (to one person or up to 100 people), and can send electronic documents from various applications as faxes through its "Print-2-fax" functionality
  • Microsoft integration – Calligator fully integrates with both Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Outlook

"By leveraging NMS' innovative Open Access architecture, we were able to develop a seamless personal unified communication and messaging center for both businesses and consumers," said Gery Pollet, Founder and Director, Aquanta Networks. "NMS' commitment to new technologies – a clear path to IP migration, the ability to integrate diverse communications applications – made it easy for Aquanta Networks to quickly and effectively bring the Calligator service to market as customers begin to demand and expect advanced communications features."

A hosted ASP service for IP-Centrex, Calligator uses several of NMS' Open Access hardware and software communications building blocks. Calligator provides advanced communications services that integrate telephony with the Internet while also supporting faxing and SMS messaging.

"Aquanta's Calligator is emblematic of the types of communications products and services that we are proud to help power," said Brough Turner, Senior Vice President of Technology, NMS Communications. "Leveraging the most innovative technologies, Calligator allows subscribers to truly manage and enhance their communications experience. We are so pleased to partner with Aquanta to bring this cost-saving, innovative application to market."
