Konica Minolta Uses Peerless Tools to Develop Multi Function Products

8/9/2004 - Peerless Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: PRLS), a provider of imaging and networking controllers to the digital document market, announced the use of key Peerless® technologies in the development of a family of Multi Function Products (MFPs) currently available in North America and Europe through Konica Minolta Business Technologies, Inc. (“Konica Minolta”). Peerless’ technologies, coupled with the Konica Minolta IP-511 and IP-424 internal controller architectures, are designed to enable Konica Minolta to deliver high quality, cost-effective solutions for business workgroups with the Konica Minolta 7255, 7272, 7222, 7228 and 7235 Departmental Document Systems. These MFPs are ideal replacement devices for office environments still utilizing separate analog copiers, desktop or network printers, standalone faxes, single-function scan devices, and even aging digital machines.

Peerless has had long-standing relationships with both Konica and Minolta that pre-date their 2003 merger. These MFPs are the results of the continuing development arrangement with the newly merged company. The Konica IP-511 is the first new controller to be launched under the new Konica Minolta brand.

“This project is a clear demonstration of Peerless’ ability to work with an OEM partner in providing essential solutions using our technologies,” said Howard Nellor, president and chief executive officer, Peerless. “Under the Peerless Partner-To-DevelopTM program, we always have the goal of providing our customers with significant competitive advantages. Our SDKs enable original equipment manufacturers (“OEMs”) to have the ability to bring highly competitive products to the market faster with their brand personality and unique functionality.”

This project is an excellent example of Peerless’ ability to provide its customers with technologies that can be customized to a variety of products to address specific needs in the imaging marketplace. Konica Minolta integrated PeerlessPrint® 5e, PeerlessPrint® 6 PCL emulation language, PeerlessDriverTM, PeerlessPageTM, PeerlessSPSTM networking technology and Adobe PostScript®3TM into the Konica Minolta IP-511 to deliver high quality products that offer new price points, improved speed and performance. In addition, the Peerless Partner-To-DevelopTM program allows Konica Minolta to leverage these controller developments across products and scales them to address its entire family of products.

“Peerless’ solutions are packaged to meet Konica Minolta’s development process and policy to utilize its own controller development center to integrate solutions with specific market and feature requirements,” said Mr. Masatoshi Matsuzaki, director, Imaging Systems, Research and Development, Konica Minolta.

About Peerless technologies

PeerlessPrint®
