Digi Introduces Automatic Device Recognition for CM Console Servers

8/5/2004 - Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII), the leader in Connectware, introduced Automatic Device Recognition for its industry-leading line of Digi CM console servers. Digi CM console servers make it easy for IT personnel to securely monitor remote network equipment through the serial console port via in-band or out-of-band network access. Automatic Device Recognition is intelligent, state-of-the-art technology that automatically detects attached equipment to the Digi CM. This makes the setup, configuration and management of console servers easier by automatically displaying the name of connected devices.

"A common cause of pain in console management is the setup and configuration of console servers," said Larry Kraft, vice president of Americas sales and global marketing, Digi International. "Network administrators normally have to record and track the ports in which each piece of equipment is attached. Automatic Device Recognition eliminates this task and reduces the setup and configuration time by identifying the attached device."

Automatic Device Recognition is standard on the eight, 16, 32 and 48-port Digi CM console servers. Digi CM products are designed for intelligent, enterprise class, secure console management. The servers make it easy for administrators to securely monitor and control servers, routers, switches and other network devices from anywhere on the corporate TCP/IP network, over the Internet or through dial-up modem connections.

"Automatic Device Recognition is unique," Kraft added. "It enables network administrators to plug and un-plug devices into any port on the console server making the day-to-day management of hardware easier. The new feature enhances the functionality of the Digi CM product line and is consistent with our mission of providing secure, intelligent products that make device networking easy."

Digi CM console servers feature out-of-band management to provide an alternative route to network equipment separate from the corporate network. This allows IT personnel to access devices remotely and fix problems even when the primary connection is down. Digi CM console servers are compatible with virtually any network equipment with a serial port including Sun, Cisco, IBM, HP, Unix, Linux and Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The Digi CM with Automatic Device Recognition is currently shipping to select customers with a full release scheduled in September.
