Fujitsu Siemens Selects Birdstep Technology’s Mobile IP Client

7/26/2004 - Birdstep Technology announced that its Intelligent Mobile IP Client has been selected by Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European computer manufacturer, to be bundled on their LIFEBOOK platform. This bundle creates a unique offering for the SMB and the enterprise market. The offer to the market will include optionally pre-configured LIFEBOOKs including the Mobile IP client from Birdstep.

The requirement for mobility solutions on enterprises opens a market for the Birdstep Intelligent Mobile IP Client. The agreement offers mobile professionals seamless and secure connectivity and handover to the most appropriate network based on bandwidth and quality. Fujitsu Siemens Computers has chosen Birdstep after evaluation of other similar competing solutions. “Our focus is to be the technology market leaders in seamless mobility. This bundling agreement provides Birdstep a tremendous channel into the SMB and enterprise market”, said Walter Hühn, VP and Global Director Mobile IP at Birdstep, “Fujitsu Siemens Computers has a great reputation in the SMB market with a solid sales force and top of the line products.”

“The Birdstep Intelligent Mobile IP Client offered through Fujitsu Siemens Computers features the added functionality to mobilize the NetScreen IPSec VPN client,” said Stefano Holguin, VP Marketing at Birdstep. “We not only mobilize seamlessly this specific VPN solution, but can now also offer a complete solution that can be obtained directly from Fujitsu Siemens Computers and their major sales channels.”

The bundling of the Birdstep Mobile IP Client on Fujitsu Siemens Computers LIFEBOOK platform confirms the growing requirement in the market for seamless mobility and provides an important step in establishing a strong position for Birdstep to reach the SMB and enterprise markets.

“The agreement to bundle the Birdstep Mobile IP technology to our LIFEBOOK platform is a strategic and important decision for Fujitsu Siemens Computers and strengthens our commitment to deliver mobile solutions to the ever changing environment of today’s mobile workforce that requires portable products and access solutions that optimise the availability of diverse network technologies,” says Konrad Veit, VP Mobility Solutions from Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

Birdstep Intelligent Mobile IP Client supports secure and continuous connectivity between WLAN Zones (also known as guest zones or hotspots) and GSM/GPRS/UMTS/CDMA networks. This market leading client allows users to seamlessly connect and re-connect across different types of infrastructures without application downtime, security degradation or user intervention. The client also mobilizes security components based both IPSEC (Checkpoint, Cisco, Nortel Contivity, Microsoft, NetScreen) and SSL VPN solutions as well as thin clients solutions such as Citrix without interruption. Recognizing the need for security in certain networks, the client triggers the security mechanisms and moves the traffic inside the existing security framework. When the user moves back to a secure environment, the client makes sure that the traffic continues to flow seamlessly, but this time without the security elements active. Such feature, which is patented by Birdstep, gives complete hassle-free mobility without requiring the user to do something except continue doing work as usual.
