7/26/2004 - StarGen, Inc., a semiconductor company specializing in advanced serial switched interconnect solutions, announced the July 1 availability of device drivers for its StarFabric interconnect technology with Green Hills Software's INTEGRITY® Real-Time Operating System (RTOS). INTEGRITY is a secure, royalty-free real-time operating system intended for use in embedded systems that require maximum reliability. StarFabric is a high-speed, point-to-point switched backplane and chassis-to-chassis interconnect solution for scalable and highly available systems. Together, they meet the demands of mission-critical applications, such as military and aerospace systems.
BAE Systems will be the initial user of the device drivers. BAE Systems has previously announced its choice of StarFabric architecture as the backplane interconnect solution for the electronic warfare systems of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).The JSF program is the Department of Defense's next-generation strike aircraft weapon system for the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and U.S. allies. BAE Systems chose StarFabric technology because it allows them to provide a homogeneous communications structure between processing elements and hardware based functional elements of the electronic warfare system. Companies worldwide are participating in the F-35's development.
"The use of StarFabric in a critical application in such a demanding environment, clearly demonstrates the high reliability and flexibility provided by StarFabric's unique architecture," said Tim Miller, CEO of StarGen. "We are pleased to have our StarFabric technology integrated with Green Hills Software's INTEGRITY RTOS to make a solution like this available to defense designers, such as BAE Systems, building next-generation systems."INTEGRITY RTOS is optimized for safety-critical embedded applications that place a premium on maximum reliability, security, and testability. It features advanced memory protection capabilities, an optional ARINC-653 partition scheduler, dynamic download, task- and system-level debug, a configurable real-time EventAnalyzer, POSIX support, and TCP/IP networking. It is also the first memory-protected real-time operating system to be offered on a royalty-free basis.
To date, StarGen has shipped hundreds of thousands of StarFabric ports to companies worldwide. These systems represent a broad spectrum of applications including military and aerospace designs, storage, communications, high performance imaging, automated test, and video distribution. StarGen is also developing StarXpress, a complementary family of products that incorporates Advanced Switching technology and is compatible with PCI Express.
StarFabric is an easy to implement, low cost, evolutionary path from existing bus-based architectures that provides a robust switch fabric architecture supported by readily available silicon, boards and system infrastructure. Its compatibility with existing PCI software and advanced features complement its 5Gb/s bi-directional bandwidth, "pay as you grow" scalability, PCI software compatibility, and high-availability.
StarGen, a semiconductor company providing advanced serial switched interconnect solutions for compute and communications equipment, is the leading designer of low-overhead, protocol-agnostic, open standards-based serial switched architectures, which enable system designers to bring new capabilities to their system while using existing standards-based parts. StarGen's StarFabric product line benefits vendors of embedded systems needing enhanced switched PCI capability as well as vendors of access communication platforms for voice, data, and video networks. StarGen is also developing StarXpress, a complementary line of products built on the Advanced Switching standard and compatible with PCI Express™. These products will be ideal solutions for blade server, storage, and mid-range communications applications. StarGen's switched interconnect products provide a dramatic increase in equipment performance, scalability, reliability, and Quality of Service while maintaining backward compatibility to existing standards based hardware and software. StarGen (www.stargen.com) is headquartered in Marlborough, MA.
PCI Express is a trademark of PCI-SIG. StarGen, StarFabric, and StarXpress are trademarks of StarGen.
The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) F-35 project is sponsored by the JSF Program Office (JSFPO), Arlington, VA 22202.
