VDC Expects Shipments of SIGTRAN Stacks to Grow by 25%

7/23/2004 - A recent study conducted by Venture Development Corporation, "Signaling Products and Related Equipment in PSTN and Voice Over Packet Networks," shows shipments of SIGTRAN stacks to rise 25% between 2004 and 2006.

SS7 stacks fall into the category of "SS7-Enabling Equipment" in VDC market models and are split into three groups; SS7 stacks, SIGTRAN stacks and Broadband SS7 stacks. All three stack segments are dominated by sales to DC/TC OEM's, who modify and integrate stacks as part of a larger networking element. The ability of SIGTRAN stacks to enable development of enhanced voice-over IP and voice-over IP to SS7 integration is pushing OEM demand for SIGTRAN while eroding market share from core SS7 stacks.

Group Manager Chad Hart comments: "SIGTRAN growth specifically is being driven by surging demand for voice-over IP services and voice-over IP integration. A significant share of this growth is predicted to take place prior to 2006, after which price erosion will start to impact revenues."
