7/21/2004 - Adtron Corporation, a Phoenix Arizona-based embedded data storage manufacturer, announced the first commercially available 2.5-inch Serial ATA (SATA) flash drive for the defence, aerospace, commercial aviation and industrial markets. Serial ATA extends the most comprehensive line of flash drives — Adtron’s FlashpakTM family—available in the market today, which includes IDE and SCSI interfaces in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch form factors.
“We have leveraged our expertise in solid state storage technology to capture market demand for SATA early adopters,” stated Alan Fitzgerald, Chief Technology Officer. “The patented Adtron flash controller allows us to respond quickly to market needs and deliver a product with exceptional capacity points and performance without using volatile cache memory. Particularly in the flash market where reliability and data integrity are paramount, the use of cache memory is a point of data loss weakness.”
SATA technology displaces the traditional IDE/ATA parallel ATA (PATA) interface in forward-looking defence, aerospace, commercial aviation and industrial applications. PATA is found in many embedded computer systems for the past 10 years. SATA offers the advantage of faster bus architecture, longer cable lengths, and full compliance with the ATA/ATAPI-6 protocol, providing an easy migration path from PATA to SATA.
Model A25FB SATA Flashpak incorporates secure erase features designed to provide the fastest clear and sanitize times available on the market today. Designed and tested to MIL-STD-810F specifications, the A25FB possesses the same reliability and durability characteristics that Adtron customers have come to expect from our comprehensive line of flash drives.
First deliveries of the A25FB begin in July 2004. With this first release, 2.5-inch capacities extend up to 40GBytes with sustained read/write performance in the 40 MByte/sec range. Soon to follow is the 3.5-inch—the A35FB Flashpak—with capacities up to 64 GBytes. Both the A25FB and A35FB provide either commercial (0 to 70 degrees C) or industrial (-40 to 85 degrees C) temperature rated drives.
Quantity pricing for a 16 GByte A25FB flash drive with a industrial temperature rating is $11,200.00. For more information, contact Adtron Sales at (602) 735-0300 or by e-mail at email@example.com. Lead-time is stock to eight weeks ARO.
Adtron designs and manufactures electronic data storage solutions for demanding applications. Adtron tailors its systems to OEM requirements for optimum reliability, durability and extended product life cycle during field deployment. Design flexibility solves problems associated with integrating traditional disk and tape drives into commercial, industrial and defense computer systems. Adtron’s FlashpakTM products are solid-state drop-in replacement for hard disk and tape drives, providing extreme durability and reliability in harsh environments. Adtron’s RaidpakTM family leverage RAID technologies to provide non-stop operations. Adtron’s BladepakTM family addresses the concerns of storage for high reliability communications platforms. Our commitment to extended device and interface support mitigates life cycle management issues and cost by reducing or, in some cases, eliminating requalification, last-time buys and inventory management costs. Adtron’s Quality System is certified to conform to ISO 9001:2000 Quality Standards. You can find more information about Adtron at http://www.adtron.com.
