NextHop and Enea Provide High-Capacity, Integrated Routing Platform

7/21/2004 - NextHop Technologies® Inc., the definitive source for network routing software solutions, and Enea Embedded Technology (SAXESS: ENEA), the leading provider of embedded software technology for the communications market, announced a co-marketing agreement to provide seamless integration between NextHop Technologies’ defacto standard GateD routing software and the OSETM real-time operating system. This combination will provide network equipment, security appliance and Original Design Manufacturers (ODM) the ability to bring cost-effective, reliable core, edge, enterprise, and Small and Home Office (SOHO) devices to market faster while supporting a complete set of advanced routing, MPLS, and IPv4/IPv6 functionality.

The GateD suite of routing and MPLS software is a complete control-plane solution, with all requisite protocols packaged conveniently for inclusion in a variety of networking devices. Available GateD protocols include RIP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, DVMRP, IGMP, PIM-SM, PIM-SSM, PIM-DM, MSDP, MP-BGP for IPv6, IS-IS for IPv6, OSPFv3, MPLS, VRE (Virtual Routing Environment), and VPN (layer 3 MPLS-BGP RFC 2547 virtual private networking) support. Equipment manufacturers can pick and choose from these individual components, or license a variety of packages targeted at specific applications.

The OSE RTOS is optimized for communications infrastructure applications, dramatically reducing software development efforts for complex embedded systems. Featuring “five–nines” availability (less than one second of downtime per day), OSE helps extend product lifecycles and flexibility by enabling products to be easily maintained and updated throughout their lifetime without being taken out of service.

“We are extremely pleased to be working with Enea to offer customers this reliable, cost effective solution. NextHop continues to look for ways to best help customers meet the critical routing requirements of next-generation networks and we see this as a strong fit for a variety of market segments,” stated Dennis Tsu, vice president of marketing, NextHop.

“Integrating Enea’s OSE RTOS with NextHop’s proven and reliable GateD 10.2 routing software offers network equipment manufacturers a complete off-the-shelf networking software solution” stated Anders Flodin, director of strategic alliances, Enea Embedded Technology. “OSE enables network equipment manufacturers to reduce project risk and simplify both software integration and testing efforts while increasing the focus on product differentiation and improving time to market.”
