Roke Manor Builds Communications Systems with Teja NP Software Platform

7/16/2004 - Teja Technologies Inc., the leading supplier of embedded networking and communications software for multiprocessor system-on-chip architectures, and Roke Manor Research, an electronics research and development arm of Siemens, announced that Roke Manor Research has selected Teja's awarding-winning Teja NP Software Platform to build an advanced communications system based on an Intel® IXP2800 Network Processor (NPU). The adoption of Teja NP as its embedded software platform will now enable Roke Manor Research and its OEM customers to deliver products to market faster, with reduced risk and development costs.

"Roke Manor Research has an excellent track record in designing industry-leading systems for Siemens and other OEMs worldwide," said David Stepner, Teja's president and CEO. "Their broad expertise in networking combined with Teja NP, which takes a systems-level approach to NPU application development, is an ideal match."

Roke Manor Research's first project using Teja NP will be a data networking system incorporating an Intel IXP2800 NPU that will perform complex packet processing at 10 gigabit per second line rates. Roke Manor Research's adoption of Teja NP will provide additional benefits to OEM customers, including the ability to reuse the same application code base across multiple product lines and easy migration to future generation processors.

"We began realizing the productivity benefits of Teja NP from the very start of our NPU software effort," stated Andrew Heppel, Roke Manor Research's NPU Team Leader. "Within just two days of starting from a Teja foundation application, we were able to tailor it to our custom hardware, then literally hours later had already increased performance by 25%."

About Teja NP
The Teja NP Software Platform allows system vendors and networking OEMs to create, test and implement software applications for multiprocessor architectures - such as network processors and multi-core communications processors - in less than half the time it takes with other methods. Teja accomplishes this through a unique approach to developing embedded networking applications that greatly simplifies the creation of software for parallel, multiprocessing architectures.

An OEM's primary challenge in designing with these types of systems is in properly partitioning the application code among the multiple processors, allocating shared memory, and building a framework to support scheduling, inter-processor communication and synchronization. Teja NP gives OEMs the ability to define a complete system's application logic in a C-based, hardware-independent model that is separately mapped to the various resources of the target hardware configuration, resulting in the automatic generation of optimized production code for the target system. The benefits of using Teja NP include the development of reliable, high-performance products that provide OEMs with a first-to-market advantage with significant reduction in engineering risk. Teja NP includes an Application Development Environment, a Network Processing Operating System (NPOS) Run Time and an extensible library of embedded network application building blocks.

Available applications from Teja and Teja Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) include IPv4 and IPv6 forwarding, TCP Offload/Termination, and ATM. Unlike reference code, all of Teja's foundation applications are fully documented and supported and are designed to be quickly and easily extended and customized using the Teja NP Application Development Environment. Teja applications are delivered pre-configured to run on popular development and production boards, including ADLINK, Force, Intel, Motorola, and RadiSys. Teja NP is currently available for the Intel, IXP2000TM family of network processors, as well as the Broadcom® SiByteTM family of multi-core MIPS processors.
