7/14/2004 - Lantronix, Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRX), announced the next generation of its award-winning XPort embedded device server. The new XPort delivers up to a 350-percent increase in processing speed over the prior XPort model and offers the industry’s first 920Kb throughput rate on an embedded serial interface. Based on Lantronix’ proven DSTni-EX chipset, the new model is a drop-in replacement for the current XPort and will be available for the same price as the prior model.
About the size of two sugar cubes, XPort is a complete network enabling solution enclosed within a rugged RJ-45 package, and enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to quickly and easily go to market with networking capabilities built into their products. As a result, manufacturers can add cost-effective network connectivity to their products with a minimum of engineering effort, dramatically reducing their time to market and investment costs.
“We specifically designed XPort to reduce the engineering risk and cost associated with adding networking capabilities to devices, and now the product delivers unparalleled processing speed for communications over an embedded serial interface,” said Michael Kuch, product line manager for Lantronix. “With XPort, designers can quickly add networking capability to new product designs without devoting extensive engineering resources to Ethernet expertise or complex communications software.”
“Last year, Lantronix reaffirmed its reputation as the industry’s leading first-to-market innovator with XPort, the industry’s first highly secure, pre-integrated device networking solution,” said Marc Nussbaum, chief executive officer and president. “With the introduction of this next-generation XPort model and the earlier launch of WiPort, the industry’s first wired and wireless embedded device networking solution, Lantronix continues to raise the bar in delivering enhanced, industry-leading M2M solutions.” Nussbaum noted that sales of the XPort product line have grown at a double-digit rate throughout the past four quarters.
XPort is a self-contained network communications server and miniaturized Web server that can be embedded into virtually any electronic device. Devices incorporating XPort have their own Web address and can be accessed from any Web browser world-wide using a PC, PDA or cell phone. XPort can serve up Internet-standard XML pages, independently issue e mails for notifications or alerts and run other applications as defined by the device manufacturer.
XPort eliminates the complexity of adding network connectivity by providing a complete, integrated solution that includes a 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet connection, reliable and proven operating system, an embedded Web server, flexible firmware, a full TCP/IP protocol stack, and optional 256-bit standards-based (AES) encryption.
XPort Development Kit
XPort Development Kits are available to provide design engineers a quick and cost-effective way to evaluate the product and to jump start development work. Each kit provides a circuit board assembly with the XPort, a power supply, configuration options, status LEDs and an RS-232 serial interface for an easy connection to a PC. A reset circuit with a push-button reset, status LEDs and a timer circuit are also included. For more information on development kits, contact Lantronix at 800-526-8764.
