7/12/2004 - Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) announced that it has launched the first NexperiaTM Home 8550 software development kit (SDK) for its Nexperia Home Partner Program to IT ACCESS Co., Ltd., a leading consumer software developer headquartered in Japan. Philips’ new NH8550 SDK features Wind River Systems’ integrated development environment, development tools and Platform for Consumer Devices. Together, this solution will help developers create middleware, applications and reference designs based on Philips Nexperia family of semiconductor system solutions for the Connected Consumer. The SDK will help propel the next generation of analog/digital TVs, high definition TVs (HDTVs), home media servers, and set-top box (STB) applications.
Software has become a critical component in next-generation consumer products. Philips Nexperia Home Partner Program includes a variety of independent software vendors (ISVs) and integrators that develop software-based, value-add products. The NH8550 SDK is a complete, assembled reference platform. The SDK integrates the development tools and embedded platform provided by Nexperia Home partner Wind River, a leader in embedded software. The kit provides partners with everything they need to create software applications and libraries for TVs, STBs, digital entertainment hubs, and home media server products based on the Nexperia PNX8550 home entertainment engine.
“We share Philips’ vision for the Connected Consumer and see great benefits combining our expertise in software for consumer products with the Nexperia family of solutions,” said Yosuke Kaburagi, CEO, IT ACCESS. “By teaming with Philips as part of its Nexperia ecosystem, the SDK offers IT ACCESS the ability to develop, port, test, and demonstrate our software stacks for exciting new consumer electronics (CE) products.”
“With the surge of exciting new A/V applications for the Connected Consumer, the industry overall benefits when we team with leading partners such as IT ACCESS and Wind River in order to rapidly address the unique hardware and software needs of CE manufacturers today,” said Leon Husson, executive vice president, consumer businesses, Philips Semiconductors. “Now armed with Philips’ SDK, our partners can move ahead more quickly to reliably create and test software applications.”
