7/12/2004 - AMREL releases the Rocky Patriot DA4-M PDA, the first fully rugged PDA in its size class to offer a 4" transflective touchscreen display with 640x480 resolution, making the DA4-M the largest, most readable and user friendly fully rugged PDA (under 1lb.) on the market today. Other firsts include: 2 USB ports for increased USB device options, MIL-STD 461E to prevent EMS interference, and the option to choose either: Microsoft WIN CE.NET 4.2 (480x640) or Pocket PC 2003 (240x320) depending on your application needs.

With more firsts than you can count on one hand, AMREL's DA4-M challenges the industry to continue pushing the envelope on product design and development. Resolute not to produce another me-too PDA, AMREL began the design of the DA4-M almost 3 years ago, determined to enter the fully rugged PDA arena with a system that had significantly better functionality and performance or not at all. The DA4-M accomplishes just that, with a larger display and increased resolution, AMREL has improved readability, as well as increased the ease of data input. With more USB ports and a wider range of internal modems to choose from, including but not limited to LAN, WLAN, WAN, Bluetooth and GPS, the DA4-M offers the user more expansion capabilities than previously available on PDA systems of similar size. Since the preference of operating systems is still varied, AMREL anticipated the need to offer their users the ability to choose between two (OS Win CE or Pocket PC), insuring that customers preferring the functionality of AMREL's PDA would not be restricted by a proprietary operating system.
AMREL is also the first to include MIL-STD 461E (the military standard for electromagnetic emissions shielding) as a standard feature. This was done in response to the increasing concern for security and reliability during mission critical field use. Users of the DA4-M can be confident that interference from radio frequencies, magnetic fields and other disruptive electromagnetic emissions will not affect its performance.
The DA4-M is designed rugged from the inside out, making it capable of surviving the harshest environments. Certified to MIL-STD 810F, the system is resistant to rain, salt fog, humidity, extreme altitudes, vibration and shock. For added protection, AMREL offers an optional IP67 certification, allowing the PDA to survive submersion in 1m (3ft) of water.
As an addition to AMREL's already existing line of "Customizable COTS" rugged mobile computers, there is both a military and industrial version of the Patriot DA4 PDA. Since 1985, AMREL's industrial product approach has offered high-quality products with long-term functionality through easy upgrades, device integration, and field servicing.
