6/30/2004 - Parasoft, a leading provider of Automated Error Prevention (AEP) software solutions, announced the version 5.1 release of Jtest, the first unit testing and coding standards analysis product that automatically generates and runs JUnit tests, plus enforces standards for code written in Java. The Jtest 5.1 release offers numerous new features that help development teams increase productivity while improving code quality across any project or team configuration.
Customers using Jtest 5.1 for automated team-wide nightly testing have praised the new automated testing and reporting features. "Every night, Jtest automatically analyzes new and modified code, and provides the team visibility into the code quality," said Greg Stachnick, Jtest lead developer. "The redesigned reporting features make it faster and easier for managers to assess project status, as well as for developers to review and correct the errors for which they are responsible."
Additional 5.1 improvements help teams identify and correct coding problems as efficiently as possible. New project-creation features help users start testing with Jtest immediately— from any development environment. Dr. Adam Kolawa, CEO of Parasoft remarked, "One of our goals with Jtest 5.1 is to help users start analyzing their classes in seconds, whether their original projects are defined in WebSphere Studio Application Developer, Eclipse, JBuilder, Together, or Ant build files— or even if their projects are simply saved in designated directories on a file system."
Moreover, with the click of a button, Jtest 5.1 users can automatically correct violations of over 200 coding standard rules using the Jtest Quick Fix feature. Leveraging Quick Fix, developers can not only identify coding problems as soon as they complete a class, but also correct the problems immediately— before they affect other code.

Jtest is the world’s first product to make team-wide Java unit testing and coding standard compliance practical. Using patented technologies, it has automated intelligent Java unit test case generation since 1997, integrated automated unit testing and coding standard analysis into a single solution since 1999, automated intelligent JUnit test case generation since 2002, and supported team-wide automated unit testing and coding standard compliance since 2003. Over the past 6 years, it has been recognized with numerous awards— including the prestigious Jolt Product Excellence Award— and adopted by thousands of development teams worldwide. Parasoft’s clients include IBM, HP, Lehman Brothers, DaimlerChrysler and over 10,000 companies worldwide.
Jtest is an Automated Error Prevention product that automates Java unit testing and coding standard compliance to help developers produce reliable code in record time. Jtest analyzes classes, then generates and executes JUnit-format test cases designed to achieve maximum coverage, expose uncaught runtime exceptions, and verify requirements that were expressed using Design by Contract. Additional tests can be added by extending the generated test cases and using new or legacy JUnit test cases. Jtest also checks whether code follows over 400 coding standard rules (plus any number of custom rules) and automatically corrects most rule violations. With the click of a button, developers can identify and prevent problems such as uncaught runtime exceptions, functional errors, memory leaks, performance problems, and security vulnerabilities.
In addition, Jtest can standardize and manage Java error prevention across a team and support the Parasoft AEP Methodology, a new methodology for improving software quality and reliability in a team environment. Implementing Jtest as part of a team-wide AEP solution is a critical step in improving software quality and streamlining a team’s software development process.
