6/25/2004 - Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading data communications and telecommunications company based in suburban Minneapolis, will be demonstrating its new single-port MultiAccess Remote Access Server in booth number 25600 at this year’s SUPERCOMM ’04 tradeshow at McCormick Place in Chicago starting on June 22. Demonstrating what the company believes is the smallest external RAS in the world, Multi-Tech is promoting the product as an answer to users who need remote access on a limited basis but do not have room for a larger system. The new MA100-1M is a single port analog remote access server, equipped with an industry standard V.92 modem, an RJ11 connector for a phone line, and a 10/100 Ethernet connector for the network. It will be shipping in the third quarter of this year and sells for an MSRP of US$299.00.
“In addition to this product’s obvious advantage in tight quarters where limited remote access is needed, there is the additional use where a RAS functionality is needed on a temporary basis,” states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. “Technical support of installed equipment can be a challenge if network access is needed to that equipment, but the user is unable to provide it. This might be the case where a firewall cannot or should not be by-passed, or company’s policy simply does not allow network access. In such a case the single port MultiAccess fits in nicely. Remote access has been part of Multi-Tech’s business for decades, and this shows our continuing commitment to users that need dial-up remote access even on its most basic and smallest level.”
The MultiAccess MA100-1M is an analog, single port Remote Access Server (RAS) external unit suitable for both dial-in, remote-node operations and shared dial-out modem tasks. The dial-out software tested and recommended for this product is by Tactical Software; either Dial-out Easy or Dial-IP. For dial-in access, any PPP client, such as dial-up networking from a Windows operating system, will work. MultiAccess is a Linux-based server housed in an external cabinet about the size of a deck of cards. It comes with tabs suitable for mounting the unit on other equipment, walls or cabinets. The modem is an ITU standard V.92/V.34 analog module, which will operate inbound at V.34 speeds of up to 33.6K bps and outbound, when connected to a digital server (e.g. at an ISP), at speeds up to 56K bps. This full-featured remote access server provides advanced security, web-based management and seamless interoperability with any TCP/IP network. Connection to the LAN/WAN is by one auto-sensing 10/100BaseT Ethernet interface, and connection to a PSTN line is by an RJ11 interface.
