6/24/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced a service assurance solution that enables telecommunication providers to monitor the service quality and network performance of virtual private network (VPN) managed services. Gathering data from active testing and VPN network elements, the solution's real-time, proactive problem management improves QoS and customer satisfaction. Its real-time service level agreement (SLA) and performance reports result in maximum revenue and reduced operational costs.
The Agilent OSS MPLS QoS Manager for Managed Services is a Cisco-verified solution that manages Cisco multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) VPN networks using statistics collected from tools such as Service Assurance Agent (SAA), Network-Based Application Recognition (NBAR) and class-based QoS. This seamless integration with Cisco systems and support for standard SNMP MIBs enables enhanced management of VPN services. These functions provide real-time problem detection and SLA reporting, which can be displayed on a Web portal for viewing by enterprise customers.
MPLS QoS Manager's active testing function leverages Cisco's Service Assurance Agents, which enable testing from CPE (customer premises equipment) to CPE, to proactively detect VPN problems across an entire enterprise. The information provided by active tests includes service availability and QoS variables such as jitter, packet loss and latency.
Real-time information gathered from network elements enables performance and availability reports, presented by VPN, customer, site and class of service. With this information, service providers can monitor the health and utilization of the network infrastructure to correct potential problems before they affect customers or SLAs. The information is also stored in a database for capacity planning reports that show when enterprise customers need to upgrade their service, ensuring service provider efficiency in network build-out.
"In a telecommunications market where the only sure thing is change, service providers are looking to their OSS vendors to offer growth paths as they add new services and technologies," said Giorgio Dina, Agilent OSS vice president and general manager. "Agilent's MPLS QoS Manager for managed services is fully integrated with our VoIP QoS Manager, so service providers can start by managing VPN services and then add another module to manage VoIP."
Agilent is a Cisco Ecosystem Select Partner for performance management.
