Conexant Launches ADSL2, ADSL2plus Upgradeable Viking II Plus Chipset

6/24/2004 - Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT), the worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications, enterprise networks and the digital home, introduced a new, low-deployment cost customer premise equipment (CPE) chipset addressing the emerging ADSL2 and ADSL2plus markets. The new VikingTM II Plus chipset offers bridging and router configurations to optimize system cost while allowing service providers to significantly reduce overall deployment costs. The fully programmable solution provides an upgrade path from a single platform, enabling service providers to seamlessly migrate to ADSL2 and ADSL2plus without hardware modifications. The Viking II Plus chipset family is backward compatible with all ADSL standards and provides industry-leading performance and interoperability with all major deployed digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs).

“We have used our proven expertise in DSL to deliver another advancement in performance and functionality in our highly successful Viking product line,” said Angelo Stephano, vice president and assistant general manager of Broadband/DSL Access Products for Conexant. “Our new Viking II Plus semiconductor family underscores our commitment to providing our worldwide customer base with high-performance, flexible solutions that support today’s technical standards and provide a cost-effective migration path that supports evolving technology standards.”

The Viking II Plus platform is a highly integrated solution with feature-rich software supporting a wide array of DSL bridging and routing features including remote management and universal plug and play, that reduce service providers’ deployment and support expenditures. Features include:

Conexant’s client-side and central office (CO) semiconductor solutions include a full range of standards-based integrated circuits, software and reference designs for all asymmetric and symmetric DSL market segments. Additional products include a highly integrated, multi-application CO network processor for the next-generation of intelligent DSL access equipment.

Samples of the Viking II Plus are available now, with volume production scheduled for the third quarter of 2004. A reference design that supports global ADSL deployments from a single platform is also offered.
