Brooktrout Creates Platform for Scalable, Distributed IP-based Applications

6/23/2004 - Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media processing, call control and signaling products, announced that it has collaborated with IBM to validate interoperability between Brooktrout’s SnowShore Media Server and the new IBM eServer BladeCenter T. This computing platform is targeted for next generation IP-based applications and architectures for the carrier market. The combined solution leverages IBM BladeCenter technology and is blended with the purpose-built media processing of the SnowShore Media Server to deliver a high-density, scalable, on demand multimedia solution that meets the growth requirements for today’s next generation IP networks. Brooktrout and its partner Ubiquity will demonstrate the capabilities of the SnowShore Media Server on the new IBM eServer BladeCenter T at Supercomm, booth #25607.

“IBM’s innovative approach at creating high-density blade packaging for servers, storage, and networking functionality is an ideal fit for our SnowShore Media Server,” said Peter Vescuso, vice president of Market Development for Brooktrout Technology. “We are excited to be working with IBM and believe that our combined solution provides a compelling value proposition for telecom service providers transitioning to next-generation IP services. The solution leverages IBM’s BladeCenter technology and is blended with the purpose-built media processing of the SnowShore Media Server to deliver a high density, scalable, on demand multimedia solution that meets the growth requirements for today’s next generation IP networks.”

Brooktrout’s SnowShore Media Server is the industry’s premier open standards-based media server that enables solution providers to easily develop next-generation telephony and enhanced voice services, such as IP voicemail and multiparty conferencing, through a highly-flexible, cost-effective, IP media server solution. The SnowShore Media Server is configured to run on the enterprise and telecom (central office-compliant) versions of the IBM eServer BladeCenter T. The SnowShore media server can be implemented in a service provider’s central office, adhering to the strict guidelines in North America (e.g., NEBs 3) and Europe (e.g., ETSI), or in a large enterprise data center.

The IBM eServer BladeCenter T is an open, industry standard platform designed for the Telecommunications industry. It uses commercial off-the-shelf components to lower TCO and accelerate the generation of new revenue. The BladeCenter T expands IBM’s NEBS compliant portfolio to include server blades and a ruggedized chassis, in addition to its comprehensive offerings of rack mounted servers.

Running on IBM’s BladeCenter servers allows the SnowShore Media Server to leverage the ongoing evolution of network architectures and Intel processor technology to deliver a future-proof media processing solution for next-generation IP applications such as IP conferencing built on Ubiquity’s Speak Conference Director. The Ubiquity Speak Conference Director is a highly-scalable, carrier-class, IP conferencing application that enables Conferencing Service Providers (CSPs) to offer hosted audio and web conferencing services. Speak leverages Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), VoIP and the innovative Ubiquity SIP Application Server architecture. This easy-to-use, browser-based solution offers a complete conferencing application feature set as well as a web portal for scheduling, initiating, managing and terminating multi-party conferences.
