Motorola, Concurrent to Showcase Video-On-Demand at Korean Cable Show

6/23/2004 - Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) Motorola announced a demonstration of its Video-On-Demand (VOD) system with Concurrent Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: CCUR) at the Korean Cable Television Association Conference 2004, Motorola Booth, (Jeju International Convention Center, June 16-18). This solution provides a CableCARDTM-ready network for Korean cable operators preparing to deploy digital cable over OpenCableTM architecture. The two-way, interactive system meets Korean Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) requirements and is ready for integration with Korean OpenCable Host vendors.

In support of OpenCable architecture, Motorola is actively pursuing partnerships with technology leaders to deliver CableCARD-compliant solutions to the Korean market. The Motorola system with the Concurrent platform will allow Korean cable operators to offer VOD as part of the national roll-out of digital cable services. The first Korean target Host for the network solution is Samsung, which will begin integration with the company’s two-way Host in Motorola labs this quarter. The integration of this technology is critical in making the transition to digital services and will give consumers the greater programming choice that VOD allows.

“We are committed to open architecture, and to broadening access to digital services throughout Korea,” said Dan Sutorius, Motorola Broadband vice president of Market Development. “By adhering to OpenCable standards, Motorola and other Korean and global vendors are providing solutions that will give cable operators the chance to offer two-way, on-demand, interactive services to the Korean consumer base.”

“Interactive services like Video-On-Demand are critical in the launch of digital cable,” said Del Kunert, vice president, Market Development, Concurrent VOD Division. “We are pleased to be working with a leader like Motorola and to be able to offer a system solution that is ready now for integration with Korean Host vendors.”

Starting this quarter, Samsung will begin porting its OpenCable Host with Motorola’s two-way network in Motorola Labs based in San Diego.
