6/21/2004 - Anritsu Company unveiled at Supercomm the MP1590B network performance tester, the first single test instrument capable of conducting EoS, Ethernet/IP, Virtual Concatenation, OTN, and SONET/SDH tests. Designed to meet the needs of next generation optical networks and network elements such as switches and routers, the MP1590B provides unique simultaneous analysis on multiple interfaces up to 10.7G. This means, for example, that the MP1590B can perform full OTN, SONET, or EoS analysis on one interface while analyzing the same or different data on one or more Ethernet/IP interfaces - all at 10 Gbps.
The MP1590B can perform all major EoS (Ethernet over SONET/SDH) tests, including GFP (Generic Framing Procedure), LEX (LAN Extension Protocol for PPP), and LAPS (Link Access Procedure-SDH). In an EoS application, for example, the network performance tester can check encapsulation functions and throughput via simultaneous operation on Ethernet and SONET/GFP links while checking errors/alarms of both links utilizing 15 GFP counters, 40+ SONET/SDH counters, and 60+ Ethernet/IP counters. Packet bit error rate (BER) tests can also be made.
MP1590B can test virtual concatenation and the LCAS (Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme) protocol as well. It supports both high order (VC3/4, STS1/3) and low order (VC11/12, VT1.5/2) mapping structures. Users can set the member configurations of the transmitter and receiver sides individually. Errors from all virtual concatenation groups can be analyzed by the MP1590B, with a complete data summary and VC group analysis displayed on the instrument's screen.
Using the MP1590B's LCAS monitoring feature, users can analyze all VCG members and MST (member status) simultaneously. Up to 64 LCAS schemes can be generated and displayed on the MP1590B. This makes it easy to analyze the time scale by simply reviewing the display time of each sequence.
The MP1590B directly supports all the Ethernet modules of Anritsu's popular MD1230A test system, allowing it to conduct Ethernet and IP performance tests from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps while simultaneously testing EoS, OTN, or SONET/SDH links with its other modules. The Ethernet modules have eight QoS counters, allowing performance testing of priority control. Throughput, latency, variable packet counters, BER, and other tests can be conducted when the MP1590B is configured with the Ethernet modules.
The MP1590B also supports OTN/SONET/SDH and DSn/PDH analysis. It can perform ITU-T G.709 OTN measurements, overhead setting and monitoring, arbitrary concatenation, and error/performance analysis with capabilities including through mode operation, a clock/frame synchronization signal output, and a unique external modulator function for WDM applications. It can conduct O.172 jitter tolerance and jitter transfer measurements. A high precision jitter analysis option gives the MP1590B an industry-best ±20 mUIp-p accuracy, measurement repeatability of ±5 mUIp-p, and very low intrinsic jitter of less than 50 mUIp-p.
Combining extensive measurement capability, Windows XP-based ease of use, and portable size, the MP1590B is a valuable tool for service providers who are installing and maintaining optical networks as well as manufacturers designing optical devices and network elements. Because of its expanded measurement capability, the MP1590B can replace multiple instruments, making it extremely cost effective.
Production quantities of the MP1590B will be available in the third quarter of 2004.
