6/18/2004 - PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT; www.plxtech.com), the leading supplier of standard I/O interconnect silicon to the communications, server, storage, embedded-control and consumer industries, announced that its PLX® FastLaneTM family of PCI and PCI-X bridging devices will be tested for compliance at the PCI-SIG Compliance Workshop this week. Three FastLane devices– the PCI 6540 PCI-X-to-PCI-X bridge; the PCI 6350 Asynchronous PCI-to-PCI bridge and the PCI 6156 bridge supporting 10 PCI devices – will be tested to demonstrate their compliance to the latest PCI and PCI-X specifications, and compatibility within other vendor environments. Overall, the compliance testing enables board and system designers to ensure full industry standard compliancy within their systems, building confidence in their products using the PLX FastLane technology. Additionally, these FastLane bridges will be tested for interoperability with several next-generation motherboards and add-in cards.
“With the myriad PCI and PCI-X products and vendors active in the market, designers can get overwhelmed by the seemingly countless interoperability scenarios for boards and systems,” said Steve Moore, senior product marketing manager at PLX. “PLX continues to participate in compliance workshops such as this, as they help designers overcome the interoperability issues facing their products and understand why selecting FastLane bridge chips provide them assurance their designs meet the industry’s compliance standards.”
Testing Demonstrates Compliance to Latest Specifications
Adhering to the latest PCI and PCI-X specifications, the FastLane family provides powerful bridging capabilities that efficiently move data among and between PCI systems with minimal processing intervention. Because of its advanced design and technology, each FastLane bridge provides lower cost, reduced board space and lower power consumption, while expanding data throughput.
The FastLane PCI 6540 is a dual-mode (transparent and non-transparent) universal adaptive high performance asynchronous 133MHz 64-bit PCI-X to PCI-X bridge for servers, storage, DSP, telecommunication, networking and embedded applications. It will be tested to demonstrate its PCI-X 2.0 compliance.
The FastLane PCI 6350 is an Asynchronous 66MHz PCI-to-PCI bridge. Testing at the Compliance Workshop will focus on the chip’s compliance to the PCI 3.0 specification.
The FastLane PCI 6156 is a 32-bit 33MHz PCI-to-PCI bridge, which supports up to ten PCI devices on the secondary bus. It will be tested to show its PCI 3.0 compliance.
The PCI-SIG hosts its Compliance Workshops several times a year, presenting an environment for members to test and validate their products before they reach market. Testing is completed in systems approved by the PCI-SIG, as well as those from other leading manufacturers of PCI products.
