Samsung Measures HD/SD Video Signals with Tektronix' VM5000

6/18/2004 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced Samsung Electronics has chosen Tektronix' VM5000 Automated Video Measurement Set for measuring High Definition Television (HDTV) and progressive component video signals.

Through precision measurement and testing, the VM5000 is a key to enabling the design of next generation digital set-top boxes, video semiconductors, integrated HDTV tuner/decoders, progressive scan DVD players and gaming consoles. The VM5000 can be used for design and development, quality/audit test, certification and compliance test, and automated production test applications.

"We were looking for a monitoring solution that would be able to measure waveform of Analog HD component signal" said Chang-Won Kim, Senior Engineer of Telecommunication R&D center of Samsung Electronics. "Tektronix's VM5000 is a natural solution as it is easy for all our technicians to use, and more importantly, it provides the most reliable and stable monitoring capabilities."

"With fierce competition in the electronics industry, the ability to bring new products to market in a timely fashion is more important than ever," said Todd Biddle, Vice President, Video Product Line, Tektronix. "With the automatic measurements of the VM5000, Samsung is able to significantly shorten its development cycle and at the same time eliminate test errors. The VM5000 will deliver the speed, reliability and comprehensive analysis Samsung needs in order to facilitate development of next generation video designs."

About the VM5000
The VM5000 is the ultimate solution for testing component analog video signals; it is capable of testing HD (720p, 1080i and 1080p) and SD (480i, 480p, 576i and 576p) video formats to user-selected tolerance limits delivering fully automated, go/no go results. Equipped with high-speed signal acquisition hardware and optimized video measurement algorithms, the VM5000 offers unmatched performance and flexibility for users testing modern consumer digital television (DTV) reception and play-out devices.

The VM5000 measurement set identifies common component signal impairments, ensures operability with connected display devices, and reliably assesses video parameters proven to correlate with video signal fidelity. Measurement parameters include sync amplitude and timing, levels, noise, frequency response, non-linearity, transient response and inter-channel timing.
