Trolltech Enhances Interoperability in Third Release of Qt Solutions
6/17/2004 - Trolltech, the market leader in cross-platform development frameworks, announced the third release for Qt Solutions. Qt Solutions provide industry and platform specific tools and add-on components that are designed to plug directly into Qt-based development projects. Qt Solutions make the development with Qt even easier and more efficient.
New Qt Solutions tools and components include:
- QtCorba:
This module provides a framework for integrating third-party CORBA ORBs into Qt. This makes it easy for Qt applications to interoperate with other applications via the standard CORBA protocols. QtCorba handles the event loop synchronization and can operate in both client and server mode. Implementations for the Mico and TAO ORBs are provided. - QtSharedMemory:
this module makes it simple to employ shared memory in Qt applications. Shared memory can be used for high-speed inter-process communication. QtSharedMemory provides a portable, platform-independent class API to the shared memory mechanism of the underlying operating system, and implements a locking mechanism to ensure safe access from multiple concurrent processes. - QtLibXMLReader:
this class integrates the publicly available libxml2 library (www.xmlsoft.org) into Qt. QtLibXMLReader provides the same SAX2 API as Qt’s own XML Module, but internally it uses the popular libxml2 library to perform the actual parsing. - QtTelnet:
this class provides support for the Telnet protocol, similar to the support for FTP and HTTP provided by Qt’s Network Module. Telnet support is useful for communication with legacy, terminal-based applications running locally or on remote servers. - QtIcoImageFormat:
This QImageIO plugin adds support for the .ico image format to Qt. This lets Qt applications easily read or write icon images from MS Windows' icon data files.
Additionally, this release contains enhancements and fixes for the following Qt Solutions tools and components: QtPieMenu, QtColorTriangle, QtUndo, QtObjectInspector, QtService, QtWinMigrate, and QtSSLSocket. Of particular interest is the Object Inspector, which can now display the values of parameters passed in signal-slot connections in a running application.
"With the third release of Qt Solutions, we are pleased to offer new features such as interopertability, shared memory, and added network abilities," said Eirik Chambe-Eng, President and co-founder of Trolltech. "With the commitment to our customers, we will continue to focus on new features that will enhance the Qt Solutions offering."
Availability
Currently, all the Qt Solutions mentioned are freely available to Qt Enterprise licensees. Some components are available under dual open source and commercial licenses.
