VenturCom and Questeq Lower K-12 IT Costs and Increase Dependability

6/17/2004 - VenturCom, Inc., which provides dependable software solutions that enable global organizations to significantly reduce technology acquisition and technical support costs, and Questeq, Inc., whose INTIFUSION management process enables school districts to turn IT investments into positive IT results, announced a strategic partnership agreement. Under the partnership Questeq will become the exclusive provider of VenturCom’s BXP software solution in a multi-state region.

Waltham, MA-based VenturCom’s BXP software enables PCs to run diskless while providing fast, efficient computing that is managed at a network level. Because of its cost effectiveness, ease of management, and always-on dependability the BXP solution is particularly attractive to budget-constrained school districts nationwide. Quested of Pittsburgh has years of experience in integrating technology and curriculum, and has developed a process for schools that facilitates better planning, implementation and management of technology.

Ron Main, Chairman of Questeq, said "every school district that we deal with is under tremendous pressure to cut costs and at the same time increase the amount of technology they offer to their students. VenturCom and BXP allow them to do just that. In addition, BXP has none of the drawbacks of some of the other technologies we’ve looked at. BXP has no negative impact on the desktop speed or on the types of applications that can be run. And Its ease of management makes BXP ideal for schools. Once we checked it out and tested it, we could see it is the answer that many of our customers are looking for. The fact that VenturCom has such a strong track record and a large base of customers worldwide also gives us a great deal of confidence."

Several of Questeq’s client school districts will deploy BXP in the Fall with several more evaluating the solution in their schools during the summer recess. "The economic value is so compelling that we expect adoption to be very rapid in our market," said Main, whose company manages and integrates school technology in several mid-Atlantic and mid-western states from its Pittsburgh base.

It was BXP’s unique, diskless architecture that first interested Questeq in VenturCom, according to Main. "We went to see it because quite frankly we didn’t think that it was possible to run (Microsoft) Windows over a LAN (local area network). But VenturCom helped us see the tremendous economic benefit in being able to run diskless and manage the system centrally," said Main.

In announcing the partnership during a seminar for Pittsburgh-area school officials. Jeff Hibbard, VenturCom’s Vice President of Marketing stated "the Questeq team understood the value of BXP the first time they saw it in operation. They recognized the tremendous positive impact this new architecture can have on the schools in their market and across the country. Questeq also recognized that BXP delivers double-barrel value because it allows schools to cut costs by up to two thirds at the time PCs are purchased and also dramatically reduce day to day support spending because centralized IT management is so efficient. Questeq’s long experience and expertise have earned them a great deal of credibility with their school customers and we’re pleased to be partnering with them."

BXP’s centralized system management is ideal for desktop computing environments, like schools, offices and point-of-sale locations, according to VenturCom’s Hibbard. BXP software provides the capacity to centrally manage both the operating system and software applications via a virtual disk that resides within networked storage. "Clearly these capabilities are ideal for LAN based PCs, and with BXP a golden PC image can be served up to all of the PC’s at the same time through BXP’s multi-cast function."
