Concurrent Showcases 4th Generation Technology at SCTE's Cable-Tec

6/14/2004 - Concurrent Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: CCUR) a worldwide leader of on-demand technology that is shaping the future of television, announced exhibit plans for the Society of Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Cable-Tec Show, June 16-18 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

Proven Technology Supporting the Complexities of On-Demand
As more MSOs roll out more forms of Video-On-Demand (VOD), the broadband operator must manage more content, coming in more frequently, over more signal collection points – or the “ingress” of content. To offer new and compelling VOD services to their customers, the broadband operator must be able to successfully ingest new movies and other programming into the system architecture while simultaneously streaming content out to requesting customers. At the show, Concurrent will highlight the ability of its MediaHawk® 4th Generation (4G) On-Demand Platform to uniquely separate storage, streaming and content ingest to meet the needs of this ever-expanding on-demand environment.

Shaping the Future of Television
At the show, Concurrent will highlight the advantages of its 4th generation architecture and how its MediaHawk 4G Platform supports a full spectrum of on-demand offerings – from independent content ingest, storage and streaming; to near on-demand control of live programming; to increased branding opportunities; to advanced business management tools.

  • Concurrent Demonstrates Live VOD and SVOD – Visitors to the Concurrent booth will be able to select, pause, rewind and fast-forward on-demand programming from major content providers in a real-time VOD and Subscription VOD (SVOD) experience.
  • Concurrent MediaHawk 4G On-Demand Platform – Displayed at SCTE, Concurrent’s 4th Generation On-Demand Platform uniquely separates streams, storage and content ingest. Because storage and streaming rarely increase at identical rates, Concurrent designed its 4G Platform in a modular fashion, enabling the independent addition of storage or streaming as it is needed, so that systems can grow as needs and service offerings grow.
  • Network-Based Digital Video Recording Technology – Taking its modular architecture a step further, Concurrent also separated the ingest of new content, meaning that broadcast television programming and other new content can be brought into the system without disrupting service to customers – and can be made available immediately. Network-based Digital Video Recording (NDVR), enabled by Concurrent’s Real-Time MediaTM (RTM) system, gives subscribers on-demand access to broadcast content, such as select sports, news and affiliate channel programming, shortly after they have been broadcast, with full functionality including pause, rewind and fast-forward. Visitors to the Concurrent booth can see how NDVR is experienced by the subscriber and by the operator.
  • TV Guide’s i-Guide Integrated with 4G Platform – Concurrent’s MediaHawk 4G On-Demand Platform has been integrated with Gemstar-TV Guide’s IPG product offering, known as “i-Guide.” This integration demonstrates the increased flexibility and enhanced VOD functionality of i-Guide, and showcases Concurrent’s industry-leading ability to support advanced on-demand services. For consumers, the integration means easier on-demand navigation than ever before. For MSOs and content providers, the integrated solution creates more branding opportunities, increases content visibility, and proactively drives traffic to specific program guide areas.
  • Concurrent BMSWeb Reports – Also on display in the Concurrent booth – an extension of the MediaHawk 4G On-Demand Platform, BMSWeb Reports, a real-time online information system providing critical information that cable operators need instantly and often about their VOD operation, content and usage. Operators can access BMSWeb Reports from anywhere in the world at any time about their network; orders and purchases; usage; and content and providers.

Concurrent’s 4G Platform is a proven foundation for the delivery of the latest on-demand services, including Movies-On-Demand (MOD), Subscription VOD (SVOD), Free-On-Demand (FOD), Long-Format Advertising (LFA), NDVR and high-definition VOD (HDVOD), as well as exciting new on-demand applications and services. Concurrent’s MediaHawk 4G On-Demand Platform includes proven hardware, extensive software, integration expertise and world-class customer service.
