Epson Selects Lantronix for Multimedia Projector Network Connectivity

6/10/2004 - Lantronix®, Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRX), announced that its device networking products have been chosen by Epson to provide remote access to its full line of professional multimedia projectors. Specifically, Lantronix’ UDS100 external device server will be marketed by Epson to customers who desire remote management capabilities for their projectors using Epson’s proprietary projector management system software. With remote access to the projectors, customers can now perform a host of management tasks, such as downloading files, remotely turning on and off a unit, anticipating lamp outages before they occur, and running diagnostics without physically being present.

According to Akira Suzuki, director of LCP Business Development & Products Planning Department at SEIKO EPSON Corporation, Lantronix was chosen over other remote networking providers because of the company’s recognized worldwide service channel. “Because our projectors target a global audience, we required a technology partner that could handle the worldwide distribution and support needs of our customers,” said Suzuki. “Also, our internal testing revealed that Lantronix’ device-networking products are the most technologically advanced, secure and reliable solutions for providing network connectivity for our projectors.”

Lantronix’ UDS100 external device servers enable users to remotely monitor, manage and control serial devices over an Ethernet network, and replace limited-distance point-to-point serial connections. The UDS100 includes a built-in Web server that can be used for configuration or to display operating and troubleshooting information on an attached device. Epson’s proprietary projector management system software has been modified to support the UDS100 and leverage the remote access that it provides.

“Lantronix is extremely pleased to be the sole device networking solution provider for Epson’s full line of multimedia projectors, and we believe the addition of network connectivity will open a wide range of new value-added applications for Epson’s projector customers,” said Marc Nussbaum, president and chief executive officer for Lantronix. “This partnership with Epson further strengthens Lantronix’ position as the leading provider of device networking solutions in the emerging M2M (machine to machine) market.”

The UDS100 is currently available through Lantronix’ worldwide distribution channels. The product will be highlighted as a recommended solution in Epson’s multi-language projector marketing materials, which will feature contact information to Lantronix’ global distributors and resellers.
