6/9/2004 - AppForge, Inc., leader in multi-platform mobile and wireless application development solutions, and Socket Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT, PSE: SOK), the Mobile ConnectionTM Company, announced the integration of their products to enable Visual Studio and .NET developers to create mobile Pocket PC and Palm OS applications for Socket's plug-in bar code scanning modules, including the laser-based In-Hand Scan Card, the In-Hand Scan Card-Imager and the SDIO In-Hand Scan Card.
AppForge Crossfire® developers can use Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual Studio .NET to write enterprise applications that use Socket’s bar code scanners. AppForge Crossfire makes it easier to add bar code scanning to existing applications providing built-in support for setting bar code parameters, sending commands to the scanner and receiving bar codes as an event within the application.
”Until recently, scanning bar coded information required a bulky, rugged, expensive data collection terminal. AppForge developers can now easily add support for Socket’s plug-in scanning products, enabling more mobile professionals to use this technology with PDAs to boost productivity,” said Kevin Mills, president and CEO of Socket Communications.
Socket offers a wide range of CompactFlash and SDIO Card-based bar code scanning products to meet a variety of scanning requirements. All products are supported by AppForge Crossfire, allowing users to select the scanner best suited for their needs. Socket is committed to working with AppForge on support for all future Auto ID products, including Socket’s soon-to-be-released Cordless Hand Scanner with Bluetooth® Wireless Technology.
“Enterprises are discovering new uses for bar codes every day,” said Gary Warren, CEO of AppForge. “With the current installed base of Palm OS and Pocket PC devices in the workplace, we believe that the Socket solution for off-the-shelf PDAs will be a great, cost-effective scanning alternative for our customers.”
