Paradyne Introduces Broadband Access Concentrator

6/7/2004 - Paradyne (NASDAQ: PDYN), unveiled its next-generation Broadband Access Concentrator featuring support for the widest range of voice and data services over broadband available in the market today. Used by network service providers to turn the copper wireline infrastructure of traditional telephone networks connecting to homes and businesses – commonly referred to as the “last mile”– into blazing fast broadband links, Paradyne’s new Broadband Access Concentrators are now shipping to service providers in 13 countries worldwide.

This latest release of Paradyne’s broadband access platform is built on the most advanced standards-based transmission technologies and end-to-end operational management features, providing the most affordable solution on the market for service providers racing to migrate traditional circuit-based services to more efficient IP, or packet-based networks. Designed specifically to support voice, video and high-speed data, Paradyne’s Broadband Access Concentrators support:

  • ADSL2+, providing performance speeds up to 29 Mbps and ideally suited to provision voice, data and high-definition television service over a single 2-wire telephone line.
  • Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) and VoIP, allowing service providers to support lifeline telephone service from the same platform enabling Voice over IP or Voice over ATM at the edge of the network.
  • T1/E1, enabling service providers to provision circuit-based lines from the same platform taking advantage of more efficient packet-based backbone networks.
  • G.SHDSL – both single pair and bonded pairs - supporting business-class voice and data applications and widely deployed for delivery of Voice over IP (VoIP) to small and medium-sized businesses.
  • ReachDSL – Paradyne’s patented technology – allowing service providers to guarantee broadband over copper to virtually any subscriber regardless of distance limitations or poor line conditions.

Paradyne’s high-density Broadband Access Concentrator supports up to 2,592 ports per 7 foot rack. Its medium-density Broadband Access Concentrator utilizes the same fully-compatible modules, providing an ideal platform for deployment in small central offices or remote terminals. Both units feature Gigabit Ethernet uplinks as well as a full suite of ATM uplinks.

“Paradyne research and development prepared over the past two years to meet our customers’ demands when the market for telecommunications equipment rebounded,” said Sean Belanger, president and CEO of Paradyne. “The current trend of VoIP, packet video and packet data closer and closer to the edge of the network aligns with our strategy, and these new Broadband Access Concentrator meets real-world requirements, worldwide.”
