6/7/2004 - Virtio Corporation, the creator of virtual platforms for embedded software development, announced that Texas Instruments (TI) has made an equity investment in the firm as part of an agreement with Virtio to create simulation technology for next-generation baseband platforms and to develop virtual platforms for TI's next-generation wireless silicon. The agreement results, in part, from the productivity gains achieved with two virtual platforms that Virtio developed for TI's OMAPTM platform.
Shay Ben-Chorin, president and CEO for Virtio said, “As the world's leading supplier of silicon for wireless, TI's investment and agreement with Virtio validates that our simulation technology truly gives embedded developers a huge advantage in terms of productivity and, ultimately, time-to-market. We have worked closely with TI for a long time and have proven that developing software on software is far more efficient and effective than traditional approaches. We look forward to continuing a productive relationship with TI as we collaborate on simulation technology for next-generation platforms.”
“As new applications and services are driving demand for 2.5G and 3G communications devices, it is critical that software developer productivity be enhanced,” said Paul Werp, TI Director of Marketing, Cellular Systems Software. “By working with Virtio, we are able to improve our software development schedules, resulting in productivity gains and allowing TI to deliver more complete solutions to wireless customers. Our investment in Virtio's growth is reflective of our confidence in the firm and its simulation technology as a way to speed embedded development.”
Virtio powers dramatic gains in software development by delivering early access to fast, full-function software emulation of embedded devices. Virtio is based in Campbell, California in the U.S.A with development centers at Campbell and the Alba Centre, Livingston, Scotland.
