MLDesign Releases Application Notes with System-level Design Examples

6/1/2004 - MLDesign Technologies has released a collection of more than 30 application notes that demonstrate to a variety mission-level and system-level design techniques. Application areas include processor and computer architecture, control systems, wireless and mobile, satellite systems and networking applications.

"This collection of application notes demonstrate how system-level and mission-level design techniques can be applied to a broad range of applications -- from integrated circuits to global communications systems," said Dr. Colin K. Mick, MLD CEO. "The models described in these notes are used to explore architectural alternatives, analyze performance, identify design bottlenecks, define executable specifications and to demonstrate system operations. They demonstrate a variety of modeling approaches including Discrete Event, Data Flow, hierarchical Finite State Machine and Continuous Time/Discrete Event."

Example systems include processors, switching fabrics, buses, protocols, networks, wireless systems, switched and switchless optical avionics networks, satellite operations, satellite-based broadband communications systems for commercial aviation, and production systems. Network examples demonstrate techniques for modeling the operation of all seven ISO layers from waveforms to applications.

Several examples demonstrate dynamic simulation where operational variables a re manipulated during simulation and results are simultaneously displayed with dynamic graphics and animations. For example, one application note describes virtual prototypes that demonstrate operations of switch and switchless optical networks via dynamic control panels.

The Discrete Event models demonstrate a variety of abstraction techniques including the use of hierarchical data structures (used to represent network messages and CPU instructions), and the use of resources to model operational costs such as processor cycles, memory usage, and channel use.
