5/26/2004 - Insignia Solutions® (NASDAQ: INSG), announced Insignia Open Management ClientTM, a new standards-based software product for mobile phones. This enables comprehensive mobile device management, including Over-the-Air RepairTM, across different types of mobile network.
The Open Management Client provides the unique ability to comply with a variety of open standards for device management, including the two recently-ratified versions of the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Device Management (DM) Enabler specification.
The Insignia Open Management Client combines device management functions such as parameter provisioning for WAP, GPRS, MMS and SMS settings with a patent pending firmware over-the air capability in an extensible and ported package. It also provides a powerful toolkit to enable phone manufacturers to provide a highly optimized and compressed update packages that can be sent over-the-air using open standards based servers to execute Over-The-Air Repair, Dynamic Capabilities, and other key device management functions.
Insignia Open Management Client is being sold to phone manufacturers and platform providers in different editions, representing the device management standards best suited for particular network infrastructure. The OMA Edition is unique in that it supports both device management methods recently ratified by the OMA. As various phone manufacturers and infrastructure providers are adopting either method, Insignia is providing the key interoperability necessary to turn the OMA DM standards into a widely deployable system.
The OMA Edition of the Open Management Client is available direct from Insignia for GSM-based infrastructure, and it was announced today that the IOTA Edition for CDMA-based infrastructure will be available direct from Teleca, a leading provider of mobile phone software technologies and platform services. As part of the new Insignia Open Management Client, Insignia is also introducing the Insignia Difference Engine v2, a new version of Insignia's patent pending differencing technology to create highly optimized and compressed update packages that can be sent over-the-air to update mobile phones. Improvements for the Insignia Difference Engine v2 include highly optimized ARM encoding, new patent pending compression techniques, and support for new types of metadata to further enable size optimization. These new patent pending techniques improve the original Insignia Difference Engine capabilities, already considered state-of-the-art, by another 35% on typical mobile phone ROM images.
