5/11/2004 - Enea Embedded Technology (SAXESS: ENEA), a leading provider of embedded software for the communications market and Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA), have signed an extended, worldwide framework agreement. In addition to Enea’s OSE real-time operating system (RTOS) the agreement will include new products such as IP networking technology and the Polyhedra database for the development of embedded end-to-end communication equipment with real-time constraints and IP requirements. The frame agreement regulates all aspects related to extensive licensing of Enea products by the Alcatel group worldwide; Enea being a preferred supplier for Alcatel.
"After an extensive study of the market, Enea’s OSE and Polyhedra products have been selected to be part of the strategic software components for Alcatel real-time and embedded products," said Jean-Jacques Bronner, director product engineer improvement, CTO department of Alcatel. "OSE, with its modern operating system architecture and its bridge to Linux, completes our corporate strategy on operating systems, while Polyhedra, with its low footprint and high performance, is well adapted to our needs for real-time and embedded databases".

Built for the communications market and based on a very easy-to-program software architecture, the OSE RTOS dramatically reduces the development efforts for complex systems. It also helps to extend product lifecycles and flexibility by enabling products that can easily be maintained and updated throughout their lifetime and without being taken out of service. In the development of communication infrastructure, OSE’s software concepts provide features (such as built-in high-availability) that ensure highly reliable “five–nines” availability, which means less than one second of downtime per day.
The Polyhedra high-performance relational in-memory database addresses the stringent requirements for transactional reliability, continuous availability, and high-speed services in data intensive applications. Polyhedra reacts to data changes in real-time. It holds all its data structures in RAM, which enables it to deliver much higher performance and a greater degree of predictability than conventional disk-based systems can provide.
