5/6/2004 - Performance Technologies (Nasdaq NM: PTIX), a leader in unified systems design for the communications, military and commercial markets, announced the Missouri Network Alliance (MNA) is using the company's SEGwayTM Mini-STP (signal transfer point) to create a private signaling network throughout the state of Missouri.
MNA is comprised of independent telephone companies, the majority of whom have been doing business in the state of Missouri for over fifty years. The Alliance was established to leverage members' existing fiber optic networks into a broadband transport network to serve the ever-increasing bandwidth needs of rural Missouri. MNA's Phase I network includes broadband network Points of Presence (PoPs) in 48 rural communities across Missouri. MNA is using Performance Technologies' SEGway Mini-STP to support signaling for roughly 50,000 access lines in the northern half of the state.
"All of our members have a strong history and reputation of serving their communities with the highest level of integrity and dedication," said Max Huffman, chief operating officer of MNA. "MNA is deeply committed to upholding that reputation through our focus on customer service and quality. Performance Technologies' SEGway Mini-STP enables us to uphold our commitment to provide our customers with the best customer service experience possible."
Performance Technologies' new SEGway Mini-STP is a networking device that uses high-level SS7 functionality to act like a small STP and incorporates IP technology to carry SS7 messages over IP networks. The SEGway Mini-STP can reduce the number of SS7 links required to terminate traffic in SS7 core networks saving carriers and service providers a significant amount of money by reducing the backhaul of signaling traffic using local switching and SS7 link consolidation. The SEGway Mini-STP can connect to circuit-based or IP-enabled signaling nodes (SSPs, SCPs). When used in conjunction with the SEGway 2200 IP-Edge product, Performance Technologies can provide a complete end-to-end IP signaling solution for carriers.
"Our SEGway signaling products provide an ideal solution for carriers looking to lower costs by reducing the needed number of costly, leased, dedicated circuit-switched SS7 links," said Normand Glaude, managing director for Performance Technologies' Signaling Systems Group. "Using the SEGway Mini-STP, carriers like those involved with MNA can realize a dramatic reduction in the number of STP ports required and in related STP port and core network access charges."
