5/5/2004 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, unveiled details of the company’s ArtixTM Developer Program. The initiative provides developers with the right combination of technology, support and educational materials required to effectively bring their exploration of enterprise Web services integration to the next level and better understand Web services’ role in emerging computing environments.
At the heart of IONA’s Artix Developer Program is the Artix Developer Kit, which is available for download without charge from the company’s Web site. The Developer Kit includes both the Artix development environment and run-time engine, giving developers the core technology they need to build the integration-ready applications crucial to an effective service-oriented architecture (SOA). Because Artix supports multiple platforms, messaging protocols and programming languages, the product is appropriate for use by an expanded developer community that is looking for effective solutions to the integration challenges they face now.
“IONA recognizes that developers need access to the right technologies to accomplish the tasks they’re being assigned, and today many of those tasks include deploying Web services and SOA in the enterprise,” stated, Scott Devens, vice president of products, IONA Technologies. “The industry is experiencing a rapid shift in how Web services and service-oriented architectures are being viewed. Hype is being replaced by reality, and through the Artix Developer Program, we are not only providing the technology, but also the know-how, to face real world computing challenges and to get real work done.”
To ensure that developers are able to make the best use of Artix following the down load process, IONA established a variety of support elements for the Artix Developer Program. For example, once registered, developers are entitled to 90 days of free technical support. To help developers better understand the role of Web services in a service-oriented architecture, they can take advantage of a phone consultation with a member of IONA’s technical staff.
The Artix Tech Zone, hosted on IONA’s Web site, teaches Artix users how to build service-oriented architectures. IONA, with numerous large-scale SOA projects deployed, uses the Artix Tech Zone to demonstrate best practices in a useful and concrete fashion via numerous developer-focused educational and reference materials. Multiple technical notes and white papers describe uses for Artix, and developers can access the courseware for IONA’s successful Discover Web Services training program. To make the Artix Tech Zone more powerful, the site hosts proven code samples and live Web services developed using Artix that enterprise developers can use to build and test Artix-based Web services solutions.
IONA’s commitment to making education about Web services and SOA accessible to the developer community is further demonstrated by the company’s catalog of available training programs. Affordable, developer-focused sessions cover topics including an introduction to Web services, Artix for JavaTM developers and Artix for C++ developers, among others. The courses provide the right combination of classroom and hands-on training to ensure that developers have the knowledge and skills needed for success.
