5/5/2004 - Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc., (NASDAQ: GMST), the leading provider of television information and guidance, and Concurrent Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: CCUR), a worldwide leader of on-demand technology that is shaping the future of television, will team up for the first-ever demonstration of Concurrent’s latest MediaHawk® On-Demand Platform integrated with Gemstar-TV Guide’s new IPG product offering, known as “i-Guide.” Powered by Concurrent’s VOD technology, the exhibit will highlight the increased flexibility and enhanced VOD functionality of i-Guide, and showcase Concurrent’s industry-leading ability to support advanced on-demand services.
The demonstration will take place at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association’s (NCTA) National Show in New Orleans, May 2-5, 2004 in TV Guide’s booth #3047, where Concurrent will be the exclusive VOD solution provider. More information on i-Guide, TV Guide Channel, TV Guide magazine and TV Games Network (TVG) will also be available in the TV Guide booth. Concurrent will highlight i-Guide along with its MediaHawk 4G Platform in the Concurrent booth, #2733.
Through the combination of Concurrent’s MediaHawk Platform and Gemstar-TV Guide’s i-Guide, consumers will find on-demand navigation easier than ever before. For MSOs and content providers, the integrated solution will create more branding opportunities, increase content visibility, and proactively drive traffic to specific program guide areas.
“With this live VOD demonstration, NCTA attendees will be able to experience i-Guide’s rich, on-demand environment,” said Todd Walker, senior vice president, TV Guide Television Group. “Through i-Guide, programmers and MSOs have options for customizing their own VOD environment, so that each has a unique look and feel. We’re looking forward to showcasing i-Guide’s advanced VOD capabilities using Concurrent’s latest, powerful technology.”
Concurrent’s 4th generation (4G) MediaHawk technology enables server-generated, branded backgrounds integrated with i-Guide, as well as VOD features including: icons that identify program features, such as high definition, closed caption or wide screen, and highlight content as “New” or “Last Chance”; barker window consistency; display of “deactivation” dates and short title descriptions, that help customers make decisions about title and viewing choices; and VOD ad launch for interactive advertising functionality.
“Concurrent is aggressively pursuing avenues and technologies which provide tangible benefits and ROI to the cable operator, content providers and advertisers, and enhanced viewing capabilities for subscribers,” said Steve Necessary, Concurrent president, VOD Division. “This integrated solution with industry leader TV Guide on their i-Guide offering demonstrates compelling VOD technology that is carving the way for unique features and functionality in a growing Everything-On-Demand environment.”
Concurrent’s MediaHawk 4G On-Demand Platform is a proven foundation for the delivery of the latest on-demand services, including Movies-On-Demand (MOD), Subscription VOD (SVOD), Free-On-Demand (FOD), Long-Format Advertising (LFA), network-basked Digital Video Recording (NDVR) and high-definition VOD (HDVOD), as well as exciting new on-demand applications and services.
