5/4/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and Rogers Wireless Inc. announced that Rogers Wireless has deployed Agilent's general packet radio service (GPRS) operations support system (OSS) solutions to manage the quality of its advanced wireless data services. The GPRS management solution extends Rogers Wireless' current Agilent-powered GSM OSS, giving network operations personnel a single view of Rogers Wireless' complete range of wireless services, including voice (GSM and TDMA), wireless data (GPRS, EDGE), SMS and two-way messaging.
"The Agilent solution adds enhanced functionality to the way we manage our wireless network data services," said JP Larocque, director of OSS, Rogers Wireless. "By providing an integrated view of GPRS services data together with SS7 signaling, we can analyze, detect and troubleshoot problems in real time from a single location."
As service providers like Rogers Wireless offer high-speed wireless data services, subscribers demand service level agreements to ensure high-quality services. Agilent is working closely with Rogers Wireless to fulfill these and other subscriber requirements, evolving its next-generation OSS solutions to manage growth in data services.
"With high subscriber demands, innovative service providers need quick access to information about whether a problem is in their network, with a content provider or intercarrier partner, or in a subscriber's hand-held device," said Giorgio Dina, Agilent OSS vice president and general manager. "We are pleased to provide Rogers with management systems that provide this information so they can ensure the high quality of service necessary to aggressively market their data services and penetrate new markets."
As of March 2004, the new Agilent GPRS troubleshooting solutions deployed by Rogers Wireless in Canada include the Agilent OSS Session Analyzer, the Agilent OSS GPRS Session Trace, Protocol Analysis and Call Trace. Rogers Wireless will soon add the Agilent OSS QoS Analyzer to complement its essential performance management portfolio.
