4/29/2004 - Magma® Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions, announced an expanded licensing agreement with NEC Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a leading provider of advanced semiconductor products. Under the terms of the multi-year agreement NEC Electronics will deploy Magma’s complete line of IC implementation solutions, including Blast CreateTM, Blast PlanTM, Blast Fusion® APX, Blast RailTM and Blast Noise®, to its worldwide design teams and design centers. NEC Electronics has already successfully implemented numerous designs using the Magma software. Based on the timing, area, power and turnaround time improvements that have been achieved, NEC Electronics Corporation decided to significantly increase its usage of the Magma software.
“Over the past year we evaluated IC design methodology alternatives to meet our advanced requirements for 130 nanometers and below. As a result we have decided to deploy and support worldwide a flow based on Magma technology,” said Kazu Yamada, general manager of the Technology Foundation Development Division of NEC Electronics Corporation. “For consideration, such a solution had to provide high productivity and good quality of results with fast and predictable turnaround. In several years of use at NEC Electronics, the Magma flow demonstrated these characteristics in a number of very large, high-performance designs. With its proven advanced functionality, Magma can enable us to meet ours and our customers’ current design goals, as well as scale to meet our future design challenges.”
“NEC Electronics is one of the world’s leading semiconductor vendors and has built a reputation for delivering some of the most advanced ICs,” said Mehrdad Shahabi, president of Magma Japan Ltd. “NEC’s decision to officially adopt, deploy and support our software in their worldwide design centers is a strong endorsement of the Magma technology. We’re very pleased to be expanding our partnership with NEC.”
Magma provides leading software for designing highly complex integrated circuits while maximizing Quality of Results with respect to area, timing and power, and at the same time reducing overall design cycles and costs. Magma provides a complete RTL-to-GDSII design flow that includes prototyping, synthesis, place & route, and signal and power integrity chip design capabilities in a single executable, offering “The Fastest Path from RTL to Silicon”TM. Magma’s software also includes products for advanced physical synthesis and architecture development tools for programmable logic devices (PLDs); capacitance extraction; and characterization and modeling.
