Raytheon Selects AP Labs for MK48 Seasparrow Program

4/26/2004 - AP Labs announced that it has received an award to design and produce integrated rack systems for the Mk48 Evolved Seasparrow Missile (ESSM) Launcher program. The contract is from Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) in Portsmouth, RI. Program sponsor is the NATO Seasparrow Program Office (NSPO) on behalf of the Canadian and Greek navies.

The program scope includes delivery of 16 Launch Control Processor (LCP) rack systems - 12 for Canada and 4 for Greece - plus spares kits. AP Labs is the hardware system integrator for the LCP and will be providing engineering support to Raytheon for the software load and final system test. Contract value is several million dollars.

The LCP system is based on the AP Labs FS-1270 rugged enclosure with a Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) VME board set. A ruggedized BIT & Control Panel is also included in the LCP rack, along with a UPS and slideout laptop drawer. The LCP monitors the status of up to 16 Seasparrow missiles in four launchers and controls the firing sequence.

AP Labs has been involved in various Seasparrow missile launcher programs with Raytheon since 1996. In addition to the LCP, previous systems delivered are Launcher Interface Processor (LIP), Tracker Interface Processor (TIP) and Vertical Interface Processor (VIP).
