Sun Presents 2004 iForce Partner Excellence Award Winners

4/23/2004 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. announces the winners of the 2004 iForce Partner Excellence Awards, co-sponsored by CMP Media, LLC. The eight awards honor the iForce partners who brought to market the most innovative solutions, as well as top performers in the storage, consulting, support services and mid-market categories.

"Our partners play an integral role in driving Sun-based solutions into the marketplace," said Bill Cate, director of the U.S. iForce Program Office at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "This year's award winners exemplify how together, Sun and its partners can deliver innovative solutions that drive revenue and enable customers to quickly realize returns on their IT investments."

A panel of judges including Sun executives and independent members of the media and analyst community evaluated almost 70 entries to select one winner in each category.

Most Innovative Solution: Helio Solutions
Helio Solutions enabled Morill Middle School in San Jose, California to deliver access to computer resources to 950 students by combining a desktop architecture based on Sun Ray ultra-thin clients with smart card technology. As a result, the school is providing complete computing services to students, with lower capital and lifecycle costs than would have been possible through a conventional PC architecture.

Achievement in Innovation: GNP Computers
GNP Computers’ achievement in innovation has enabled Alcatel and Sun to successfully service several major telecom accounts – including Bell Mobility, Qwest and AT&T Wireless – with 13 integrated frame solutions incorporating Sun servers and storage, Alcatel software and a variety of third-party applications.

Most Innovative Software Solution: Dynamic Systems
Dynamic Systems addressed the complex mosaic of service contract management that larger organizations face with a Java technology-based Web Service solution called Contract Management Center (CMC). The CMC solution facilitates contract consolidation, streamlines procurement processes, simplifies contract change management and provides useful online reports about the status of contracts. As a result,CMC manages about $40 million in Sun Educational Services contracts for the U.S. government and $2.5 million in contracts for California's educational system.

Best Business Transformation: Tomax Corp.
Tomax and Sun delivered a new enterprise IT infrastructure featuring Sun servers and Tomax’s Java technology POS-based software to dramatically reduce costs and improve customer service for Sportsman's Warehouse, while supporting the company's rapid business growth. Tomax successfully executed this transformation across 19 locations in just 90 days. The new infrastructure’s capabilities include accurate, real-time in-store inventory reporting, increased customer service at the point-of-sale, immediate access to order placement and tracking information and user-friendly, local administration of promotional programs.

Top Storage Partner: GTSI
The Top Storage Partner has the highest storage attach rate and storage-driven revenue for the current Sun fiscal year. GTSI, headquartered in Northern Virginia, is an IT solutions leader focusing on federal, state, and local government customers worldwide. For 20 years, GTSI has delivered maximum value to public-sector customers by teaming with Sun and other leading technology partners to help organizations such as the Department of Defense, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the National Transportation Safety Bureau do their jobs more effectively with a broad range of products and services, an extensive contract portfolio and ISO 9001:2000 Registered logistics.

Top Mid-Market Performer/New Target Account Partner: Strategic Technologies
Awarded to the iForce Partner with the most new-to-Sun sales and corresponding revenue in the enterprise mid-market based on participation in Sun’s Target Account Rebate Program (TARP) and/or Vertical Solution Rebate Program (VSRP), this year's award goes to Cary, North Carolina-based Strategic Technologies Inc., which generated over $1 million in new-to-Sun revenue.

Top Consulting Partner: Innovativ Systems Design
This award is presented to an iForce Partner that has achieved significant financial results from its alliance with Sun Professional Services (SunPS). Innovativ Systems Design (ISD), a Strategic and Software Elite Partner and member of the Sun National Advisory Council, is a repeat winner, again ranking as the top partner in both revenue and number of engagements generated with SunPS – largely as a result of its continued success in leveraging Sun’s Authorized Sales and Referral Program+ (ASRP+).

Top Support Services Partner: Dynamic Systems
Dynamic Systems, the iForce partner who has demonstrated commitment to Sun's solution strategy and annuity-based business model through developing a significant Support Services revenue stream, is a double-winner this year, having also taken top honors for Most Innovative Software Solution. The two victories are linked, as the company’s Contract Management Center (CMC) played a key role in the 163 percent growth it achieved in support revenue.

Recipients will be honored today at an awards ceremony at the iForce Partner Summit in San Diego and will receive marketing funds to leverage the Sun brand in marketing campaigns. Additional information about the award-winning solutions can be found at
