4/22/2004 - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTEC), the company driving the global core system software standard in PC systems and connected digital devices for 25 years, announced that Quote Components, a leading European system builder and PC manufacturer, has adopted Phoenix FirstWare® applications into its QMotion branded notebooks. These models, carrying Phoenix FirstWare Recover Pro and Phoenix FirstWare Check running on Phoenix cME Console, will be sold directly through SWITCH, Quote Components' sales division. SWITCH targets the educational and retail markets in the Netherlands and Germany.
"Our partnership with Phoenix allows us to build high-performance, trusted notebooks," said Rene Lammers, CEO of Quote Components. "Now we can deliver products that allow users to restore their data or systems with a simple process that does not require a recovery CD or network connectivity. This means they can maintain productivity almost anywhere, even when offline or away from the office. It also helps to reduce IT support costs for enterprises and technical support costs for our customers."
Quote Components will also include the product in systems they build and sell through other retailers. The addition of Phoenix FirstWare applications offers PC users increased quality and reliability.
"Companies like Quote Components can strengthen and differentiate their market positions with Phoenix products and our built-in applications," said Michael Goldgof, Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Products Division for Phoenix. "In a time when enterprises rely almost exclusively on digital information, Phoenix is working to ensure that systems and data are protected from threats, ensuring critical business continuity. We also are helping companies recover their intellectual property when problems do occur. Without technical assistance, users can easily restore their systems and data to an uncorrupted state."
Phoenix FirstWare Recover Pro is the award-winning Phoenix cME-certified application that allows PC and notebook users to quickly and easily restore the PC image, in whole or in part. By incorporating Phoenix's advanced technology into new notebooks, Quote Components enables users to return systems applications to original factory settings, to restore the entire approved corporate image, or simply to recover uncorrupted versions of user data without needing a boot disk, network connection or recovery CD.
Phoenix FirstWare Check is an always-available, hardware diagnostic program that allows users to quickly identify the nature of a PC failure and take the appropriate actions to restore the system or repair the machine. This further reduces IT support costs and maximizes productivity.
Quote Components also benefits from Phoenix cME Console, which extends the Quote brand into the core system software and enhances its reputation by providing essential built-in functions. It also offers valuable OS and application authentication services to ensure that Phoenix FirstWare applications are always secure and available.
Phoenix has created these software products to address the growing threat of malicious attack. Industry experts have identified more than 72,000 viruses, many of which can spread globally in 30 minutes or less. Even common downloads, such as online subscription services for music, movies, games, and instant messaging, can deliver contaminated software to PCs.
Founded in 1979, Phoenix Technologies (NASDAQ: PTEC) helped launch the digital revolution when it created the industry's leading machine-independent BIOS software, which ships in more than 100 million new systems each year. Phoenix leveraged that core-level experience to develop Core System Software, which moves beyond BIOS for the age of networked devices. Phoenix solutions activate, secure, connect, and recover the world's best-known systems. These solutions are built into the machine core, where they are protected from viruses, user errors, hackers, and corruption. Phoenix is headquartered in Milpitas, Calif. USA (Silicon Valley), with offices in global business and technology centers. Visit http://www.phoenix.com/.
